Fiveby5Premium join:2009-07-26 Atlanta, GA | I couldn't find it listed anywhere, I called and talked to a guy in the sales department on a hunch.
Soon as I asked if it was available in Atlanta yet, he told me "Yep it is, let me look up your specific area." He confirmed it was and even made a side comment that my account had a ridiculously good deal on it as it was so that I wouldn't be shocked by the price increase. (Had managed to finagle 22 mbps speed for $5 more than 6 mbps).
I said that was fine, as I was to excited at the prospect of 50 mbps to much care, and he goes alright let me get the mac address from you real quick...and a modem resync later I was clocking 59 mbps.
I then tweaked my Windows 7 install a bit to boost up my upload but I'll save that for another post unless someone is curious.
The guy was more on the ball than most of the technical support analysts I have talked to. |

1 edit | reply to Fiveby5 What was your previous speed? I am limited to 6/2 currently. Did you receive a new config file to your modem? I am fairly certain we do not have it here yet but its good to know what to look for. |

Everything I tweaked was within the Netshell interface, I didn't play with any numbers directly though. After running the Microsoft router test to confirm my cisco/linksys RVS4000 met the needed specs I did the following:
1. Run As Admin -> Command Prompt. 2. From the command prompt, I typed: "Netsh" and hit enter. 3. I checked my global settings first: int tcp show global
(Old Settings) New Settings
TCP Global Parameters --------------------------------------------- Receive-Side Scaling State: (Enabled) Enabled Chimney Offload State: (Automatic) Enabled Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level: (Normal) Normal Direct Cache Access (DCA): (Disabled) Enabled Add-On Congestion Control Provider: (Disabled) Enabled ECN Capability: (Disabled) Enabled RFC 1323 Timestamps: (Disabled) Disabled
The only one I was unfamiliar with was DCA but this magically fixed one of the most frustrating problems I have had recently; where my download speed would report right but it would only come in stuttered bursts followed by periods of non-responsiveness. This happend mainly with Internet Download Manager and specific sites, after changing this and restarting my computer the stutter stop went away completely.
It really is something else to see 20 downloads running in tandem all fluxuating between 600kbps and 2 MBPS in speed.

I am fairly certain we do not have it here yet but its good to know what to look for. My previous speed was 16 mbps, but my upload has always been a little weird. Not sure if it is my position in my building, my router, or what causing it. I've had all sorts of odd things happen: for instance, during the docsis 3.0 upgrade my IP for a week would only sync to New Jersey. No one at Comcast knew why or could figure out the cause.
Prior Upload was 8-10 mbps during this time period. Download would cap at 15 mbps.
Also, it should be noted if you have an RVC4000 and have any speed issues - it caps at 16 mbps with IPS turned on. Which sucks, but I am just going to have to live with it for now. Turning this feature off immediately allowed my speed to cap out. |

I don't have it setup to email me when I get messages on here, going to alleviate that right now. |

It did seem to help with that as well. Good find. -- Duct tape is like The Force it has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the Universe together |
