NCSilverBear posted : Thanks, yes this is under consideration. But, only if the problem is not resolved. For now, as far as I can see, we've not had a dropped signal for about a week. I've not had this stability in a long time. So, whatever they did at their end, is working, for now. I hesitate to apply any "update" when it's working fine. Holding my breath, knock on wood . . . not going to "fix it" if it ain't broken. But, now I know at least that there is an upgrade, although the 2Wire home page says there isn't one. Appreciate the suggestions. I wish I knew what it was they did. But, I suspect they won't tell me, because that would be admitting the fault was theirs!

NCSilverBear posted : I'm checking this forum, which I just found. I'd been having these issues with 2-Wire modem for a while now. Getting worse to the point where I started looking for a different service (from ATT). Been an ATT customer for 20 years. They sent out 7 senior techs, checked everything all the way out to the main switch, replaced the modem 3 times, etc, etc. Every conceivable thing and then some. I still experienced random drop of signal. It would loose synch, red light flashes, then green light flashing and then reset. It might not do this for a couple of hours, or it might just keep cycling through for an hour. No rhyme or reason or pattern. Only stayed down a few seconds to a minute, but enough to disrupt any Internet activity. They couldn't figure it out. But, after about my 100th call, Friday, where I told them I was going to have to cancel, I've not had it drop once since then! That is a record. So, they did something at their end that made a difference. As of Monday, I received my CLEAR modem and I'm currently on trial with them, with which I'm not happy, until the 29th. If my ATT 2-wire remains stable, I'll stick with it. I was unaware of any Firmware update. The software on my 2701HG is 5.29.199.11 It indicates this is the most recent, there are no upgrades available.

Voltron posted : Oh yes, I have had issues with the firmware push from AT&T and/or 2Wire. I had my service, which was nearly perfect, for about two years, using firmware version 5.29.47 on a 2Wire 2701HG-B. Then, in September, AT&T/2Wire pushed firmware version 5.29.109.5 and I have had several issues since and it's now February 2010!!! First, I lost my download broadband speed, as it diminished from 5.357 Mbps to 1.xxx Mbps or less; this was somewhat "resolved," pointing to "dirty fiber," according to AT&T. Unfortunately, I am still not back to my old speed of 5.357 Mbps; I'm usually around 5.000 or 4.997 Mbps. The other major issue that still remains is that since this firmware update, I have been unable to reconnect my Linksys/Cisco wireless bridge (WET200) to the 2Wire 2701HG-B, via wireless. It was the WET200's loss of wireless connectivity that actually alerted me to the firmware update, in the first place, as I noticed the WET200 had lost its wireless connection with the 2701HG-B. That got me to digging; whereby, I immediately noticed my incredible loss of download speed, the loss of wireless connectivity, and the associated firmware update. It has been an extremely frustrating experience.

--Voltron

anon posted : Has anyone noticed that the new firmware for the 2700HG-B (5.29.109.5) is causing some sort of DNS problem? When I am browsing the web, on any site, my web browser will sometimes take forever to load a page. After it's done it will say "Server Not Found," and I have to then click try again to get it to work, and it does, but it's a pain, and a waste of time. I've tried using different browsers and computers, but the same thing happens. Is there any work around for this? I'm really getting tired of it.
