| reply to Swamper There's a seller onEbay who is selling the genuine 2Wire supply. Ebay # 370256195793. I have one on the way as a back up to the digital camera adapter supply that i'm currently using. I also got the wall wart that i bought from All Electronics working, too. Had to shorten the 5' cord to 18" and put on the proper coax power plug.
The Ebay guy is sellingthem for $9.99 + $4 shipping.

| If you look, the original 2Wire supply has a 3-prong AC plug; most of the replacements that have been suggested have a 2-prong plug. The third prong (AC ground) is used by the phone line surge-suppression circuitry of the modem. If you live in an area where lightening is infrequent, you may get away with a 2-prong power supply. In other areas, it would be highly risky to try it. Cheaper to spend $20 plus shipping than to have to pay for a new modem. |

| Dave, the seller on Ebay shows a picture of the genuine 2 Wire supply. If he is selling a 2 prong unit, while showing a 3 prong unit, he would have lots of people mad at him. So far, i'm giving him a chance. He's sold over 100 units so far, If it wasn't genuine, by now he would be in deep trouble. |

| I wasn't commenting on genuine 2Wire supplies; my comment related to power supplies for the Sony PS2 and digital cameras, Wallmart and Radio Shack power supplies, the All Electronics supply that was referenced in this thread, etc. Very few of the alternative supplies that people have suggested incorporate the third prong on the AC plug. |

| Dave, i know that's what you were referencing-- I have my phone line plugged into my UPS, which has the phone line surge suppressor in it. Power supply is powered via the UPS-- I would hope that most people use a UPS to protect their setup-- I have my TV, BD player, and home theater system powered via a UPS, too. If wasn't using a UPS, then yes, I'd want to have the genuine 2 Wire unit. |

| Very hard to say what percentage of DSL users have a phone-line surge protector (in addition to whatever protection is built into the DSL modem). Without doing testing on everything that's out there, it is also next to impossible to know how well these external protectors perform in the real world.
By the way, the UPS I use (APC SmartUPS 1500) has no connections for phone line, Ethernet or coax. All it handles is AC power. So, extra protection equipment must be acquired to protect various signal cables. I have done it; others may not bother. Also, I have looked inside a number of power strips that have phone-line jacks; the circuitry ranges from very minimal to quite extensive (in general, older units are more complicated). Most people probably have no clue regarding how good a job the power strip manufacturer did. |

My 2700HG-B got the red power light issue yesterday. I bought a brand-new 2701HG-B from Best Buy and swapped the power adapter (after reading these threads) and the old router still works. If I can save some money and just replace the power adapter I would be very happy! |

| I'm not using it right now, as I bought 2 other adapters that are equivalent to the 2wire, except they are 2 prong. I did plug it in and checked it under load, and it puts out the proper voltage & current to run the 2701. For the price, it can't be beat, and it's a genuine 2 Wire unit.
