Re: Dollar to be dropped as the oil currency by 2018

Ok we can agree all the points of the good and the bad.
But, when it comes down to the main factor, as of now without price increases which there will be many it would cost me close to $50,000 to run my home completely with just solar power how much would it cost to power a city?
How much will it cost you to go solar? Make that 50% 100% and post your cost.

Forget OIL and GAS for now and just think SOLAR.

The result from Solar Calculator seems a bit low for a grid-tied system. In 1999 the cost of grid-tied electricity in my neighborhood was about 10 cents / kWh plus a $10 / month service fee. I think the installation would make the cost of the system a little higher:

3 KD-205's: (($570 / each) * 3) * 1.016 (city sales tax) = $1,737
One 2,000 W grid-tied inverter: $2,000
Wiring and mounting hardware: ~$30
Professional instillation: ~$1,500
Total: $5,267

12 V Off-grid system:
5 KD-135's: (($402 / each) * 5) * 1.016 (city sales tax) = $2,042
One 2,000 W rectangular wave inverter: $1,000
Wiring and mounting hardware: ~$40
8 Crown 395 Amp-Hour Deep Cycle Batteries: $2,196 * 1.082 (sales tax) = $2,376
Owner installation: $0
Total: $5,458

My PV system started out with 407 rated watts, expanded to 527 rated watts and is currently 662 rated watts which provides ~3 kWh per sunny day. If you want to get the price down, reduce your power consumption.
