Loosing connection and sync, frequently

Ok, I'm new to this board but I was curious if some of the pros around here might be able to help me figure out what is going on.

I had Centurytel install my 10mb DSL last Thursday. Since then it's been down off and on since then. Here's what I do know -

My connection goes down and i loose sync :
When it rains (we have had lots of rain lately)
In the evening (possible interefence from the lights at the church across the street?)

My current Transceiver stats:
Transceiver Revision: 5.2.2.0
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode
Data Path: Interleaved
Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 12474 892
Margin (dB) 19.0 227.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 19.0 82.5
Transmit Power (dBm) 19.7 12.2

My upstream path has varied from around 11,000 down to -4000.

I've had two repair tickets with CT and they just replaced the jumper and something else inside the NID.

I'd be grateful for ANY help.

Thanks,
CB

Hey Burris1 See Profile, welcome to the forum.

Your log shows some wild swings in both the upstream and downstream signal margins. Your upload margin is wild most of the time, and isn't accurate....it's something with the way the Westells are reporting it, incorrectly at that.

You should try testing your connection at the phone box on the side of your house. There should be a test jack where you can plug in a standard phone cord (long one), and run it directly to your modem. Then check the stats again, and if possible, let it run that way for a few hrs, to gather enough info to go on. This bypasses all your inside house wiring, and directs the DSL directly to your modem. If you don't see improvements, then it's an issue before it comes in to your house. If it does improve, then you'll need to isolate what's causing the drops with the inside wiring/filters/devices plugged in inside.

Icon,

Thanks for the reply. It's odd but my connection has been up for the past hour. That's the longest its been up since i posted my thread initially.

The test jack i assume is located in the NID? I guess that's why there's a customer access panel on that thing!

Are these stats, things I can show the tech to help explain what is going on?

thanks,
CB

Yes, the test jack is inside the NID. If you can do that test, it will give you enough info to determine if it's something inside or outside your home.

And yes, you can give your test results to a Tech, and they can also compare what you're getting inside, versus what they can show at the NID. But you can get the jump on it first.
