1 edit | RG Firmware update to VDSL2 this morning
Hi all. I was using my internet this morning and my wireless kept dropping, figured it was a wireless problem. However went to the Rg and noticed a new firmware version and sure enough it has only been up for 8 minutes.
New firmware version is 5.29.135.47 and new down sync rate is 25208 and up is 2040. I am in Fairfield, CT
Anyone know what this does?
Here is the upgrade list. looks like vdsl and hpna got upgraded.
Current Version Model Number: 3800HGV-B Gateway Hardware Version: 2700-100531-006 Software Version: 5.29.135.47

Connection Speed: Incoming: 25216 kbps Outgoing: 2048 kbps
Your rates shouldn't have gone below that. |

From: »gigaom.com/2005/05/19/vdsl2-100-···er-next/
Here is a little comparison of more recent flavors of DSL
* ADSL has speeds up to 8 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. Can be deployed from Central office and has a range of 15,000 feet and longer.
* ADSL2+ has a maximum speed of 25 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. Can be deployed from Central office and has a range of 15,000 feet and longer
* VDSL , some chipsets that use the optional spectrum of 30 MHz can do 100 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream. Current carriers include NTT, KDDI, Korea Telecom, and Softbank BB of Japan. Has a range of about 5,000 feet
* VDSL2 has speeds of 100 Mbps downstream and 100 Mbps upstream. Has a range of about 12000 |

Getting it in the firmware update doesn't really do anything for anyone right now. It's just saying the RG is now VDSL2 capable. |

Getting it in the firmware update doesn't really do anything for anyone right now. It's just saying the RG is now VDSL2 capable. The RG is not just VDSL2 capable now with the new firmware, the line is syncing with the VDSL2 protocol. As is i said before, the mode of the sync is now G.993.2 not G.993.1, which means the RG is using the VDSL2 protocol to sync. It doesnt mean i getting any benefit out of the new protocol, but the RG is definitely using VDSL2. When i get home i will post a image to help clear up any confusion. |

| I understand that and stated incorrectly. What I meant to say is it's no benefit right now like you stated. VDSL2 is great but you aren't seeing any benefit to that just that's syncing at VDSL2 protocol. Down the road if ATT decides to do something hopefully it will be beneficial to us all. |

| reply to chunk73 Also this is not a one off thing. Another user posted on a thread i started this morning over at uverseusers.com
they are in trumbull ct and they too got the update. So hopefully this was not an error, hopefully AT&T is in fact rolling it out to the masses. |

I actually have a spare RG at home. I will hook that up tonight and see if it upgrades itself.
Has anyone tried clicking on that link in the RG mgmt interface that checks for new updates? |
|
gdm Premium,MVM join:2001-06-15 Mchenry, IL clubs: | The update would be specific to your area so if you hooked up a new RG it would get it.
I believe they disabled the upgrade button awhile ago. I just tried it and did nothing, it used to say no upgrade or something like that. |
