Given the layout and topographical challenges that those two markets present, it's only logical to figure that they will take more time to build out and test. In the meantime they need to have 30 million POPs covered by the end of 2009 to satisfy the FCC so they're continuing to roll out medium sized markets. When the Chicago market is officially announced, it should be a good litmus test for how their service will perform in markets like NY and LA. |

From what's I have read, Clearwire is using their own microwave backhaul almost exclusively in new Mobile Wimax markets and then running them back to central points where it will hit fiber muxes.. either there isn't fiber in many of the WiMAX antenna sites or it's too expensive. |
