Mainly because AT&T's coverage sucks in some parts of the US, while you can get a CDMA signal from Verizon or Sprint almost anywhere you go.

Anyway, everyone is going to LTE so it will be a moot point soon.
Those Maps Verizon are touting are AT&T's 3G. GSM is available everywhere CDMA is. Actually AT&T has the country better penetrated than Verizon. Verizon Wireless has better brainwashing.
Hmmm... really?

Where I live the ATT coverage is spotty while Verizon is solid.

I have an ATT phone from work and I get lots of dropped calls compared to my personal Verizon phone, up where I live.

Another area that was a total let down with AT&T was in rural parts of the lehigh valley area, Pennsylvania. AT&T had no coverage, Verizon had two bars. In fact I was pissed off that I was missing important calls from work when I went to visit my friends there, so I just started forwarding the AT&T phone to my personal Verizon phone.

If AT&T truly had the best US coverage, they wouldn't have to add the fine print disclaimer on the bottom of their ads that say "based on international coverage"

If you live in Sussex, NJ you have great ATT coverage.
Within 10 miles of you there are like 13 towers. GSM coverage is about 25 miles.
It amazes me at how people lie about cell coverage.

I live in Wantage, not Sussex. Sussex is the post office, and anywhere you put zipcode 07461 it comes up as Sussex.

Your map also shows that ATT towers are only along route 284 while most of Wantage and Western Sussex County (West of the ATT towers) is left without ATT coverage.

It amazes me at how people lie about cell coverage.
Don't take my word for it. Look at the maps between the both carriers.

Compare:
»www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/ (ATT)

»www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/Cove···ntroller (Verizon)

Verizon clearly has more coverage.

For GSM you can't just look at ATT.
GSM coverage: »www.coveragemaps.com/pubs/GSM_Am···009A.pdf

Anyways it is obvious you are lying. You live within 10 miles of 13 ATT towers (not counting any other GSM towers) so you have great local coverage in Sussex, NJ.
You have never driven coast to coast or you would have easily have seen that ATT beats verizon.

You must work for Verizon or you are just being stupid for no reason.

Now you can't read maps.

Anyways it shows two towers basically in Wantage and you are within 10 miles of over 10 towers. Why do you lie about coverge?

I can, because roaming is roaming, and roaming costs money.

Other GSM towers? Our town fought T-Mobile for two years in court. Cell towers are not easy to put up in this town.

And you live in Canada, so you have no idea of what our coverage is like here. Stick to your own country.

Maybe you should try being in Missouri, There are very few areas where any GSM carrier beats CDMA. I can call from basements and metal buildings (on my Verizon BlackBerry) while my at&t buddies can't even get a 911 signal. I can also use my 3G coverage from St. Louis all the way to Kansas City, MO if I want while at&t only has 3G coverage in STL, Columbia, and KC on I-70 (minus a couple of smaller towns by the major areas) so I will stick with my CDMA. I also have Sprint for my Netbook (CDMA Powered.. had the choice for at&t and wouldn't touch them).

Perhaps you should try actually traveling the USA just like you suggested that Eat Me should.... Also at&t has a major problem with not updating its map info with the FCC fast enough and since you are using a 3rd party site the information may be incorrect.

Now since I have said the above, LET IT DROP.

The 3rd party site is for all GSM, not just ATT. You can roam onto other company networks.
If you live in Kansas City you better have better coverage with Sprint since they are headquartered there.
Kansas City has over 30 ATT towers.
I have traveled throught Kansas and I know Verizon coverage has gaps on the highways.

To what you claim about ATT not working in basements, I have had that same experience everywhere else where ATT works in basements and Verizon does not.

It just amazes me how people lie about coverage. You cannot tell me CDMA has better coverage when I know it does not. You guys need to let it drop already.
