Multiply it by many topics, and you get more wasted time (of course, that's partly why some people are here anyway, still...). The ticker is useless to me so I don't use it. I don't feel threatened by those who do use it. Some people here should get a clue: just because you don't want to use a [proposed] feature doesn't mean someone else shouldn't be allowed to have that feature available. Context is relevant, as is reality.

I also don't use the ticker, for one, because the forum name is not provided along with the topic. I do use the hotlist on occasion, where I can see which forum a topic is in, where I can see the context, and, therefore, choose to "filter" the topic... for any forums that have no relevance for me (and, yes, WoW is certainly #1 on that list--a list which includes almost every forum not already in my Favorite forums).

So, as was suggested by several of us, just add the forum name to the topic... it's not like there isn't room for it in the ticker.
drew posted : In proper internet meme vernacular: Popular forum is popular.

Your complaints need to be broken down properly:
1. Ignoring an entire forum as if it didn't even exist is rather asinine, so discard that notion entirely. Simply choose not to visit it.
2. If you're upset about "most popular" features, don't use them. When they're censored they serve little purpose.
3. If you're wanting a more tailored "based on your post and reading history, you might be interested in..." toolset/feature-set, I *object* strongly as it would take a lot of resources to do something you can do on your own where as more important things take a back seat.
--
Come play Mafia! | My Picture Blog
