Some of us use this board for work. Looking up a solution to a networking or hardware problem is therefore appropriate. In those 2 clicks you can load 100 posts about a *game*. This opens up a can of worms that is easily avoided.

I hadn't thought about that. Since there's already something grabbing both the thread title and the forum and displaying it, it seems like far less work to get the same information to display also in the ticker. Two clicks is a waste of time... as in one. Multiply it by many topics, and you get more wasted time (of course, that's partly why some people are here anyway, still...). The ticker is useless to me so I don't use it. I don't feel threatened by those who do use it. Some people here should get a clue: just because you don't want to use a [proposed] feature doesn't mean someone else shouldn't be allowed to have that feature available. I also don't use the ticker, for one, because the forum name is not provided along with the topic. I do use the hotlist on occasion, where I can see which forum a topic is in, where I can see the context, and, therefore, choose to "filter" the topic... for any forums that have no relevance for me (and, yes, WoW is certainly #1 on that list--a list which includes almost every forum not already in my Favorite forums).

So, as was suggested by several of us, just add the forum name to the topic... it's not like there isn't room for it in the ticker. Something being popular doesn't mean much to me... look at "reality" TV shows--they're "popular"... I've been around the Internet and a lot of forums over the last 12-15 years and have never, ever seen a feature like the one requested.

Do you get angsty everytime you read the title of a newspaper article and it turns out it's about something you don't want to read about? Or do you just go 'oh' and move on?

Well, it's 2 clicks every time it happens. Lately it happens a lot.

The alternative suggestion of providing forum name in title--which I have seen several other requests for for the same reason--wouldn't require much of a coding solution. But like I said--it's not my site and I respect whatever you do or don't do regarding the matter.

One thing I would be thinking about, though, from a web dev stand point is reducing server load. Each of those two clicks cause a hit to the server. you guys don't seem to be suffering any load issue, so it may not matter right now. But I know in the systems I develop that I minimize, in every way I can, the number of times httpd spawns.

I already do completely ignore certain forums and choose not to visit them. The exception to that rule is when a thread title appears which does not clue me in at all to the fact that it is from one of those forums and I click through. This started happening often enough that it brought the idea to mind that I would like to place a forum on block as I do certain users.

I didn't mention anything about my posting or reading history, I asked to be able to place a forum on ignore. What the owners/developers of the site do with that request is completely up to them and I respect them and their decision.

I Enjoy the random threads that the ticker shows up, but i keep seeing threads like
"Question about primal saronite"
or "Tank/Hybrid DPS for Farming" and i, having no idea what these are decide to read them, and then realize its just WOW and go back out.

I would not mind being able to block them altogether, but would be just as happy with something like the "forum topics by..." box on the homepage

All the other unrelated forms on here have made the "Forum topics by" and other features like the Ticker pretty much useless for me.

The ability to filter this site back down to what it was meant to be and not a free for all online soap opera about every subject known to man..

Why don't you use Favorite Forums page? I do and, as a result, I have never had to hide any forum that I don't want to see. I just specify those ones that I'm care about :)
I use the fav forums page heavily. The forum list is not the concern which I had.
