| reply to SLD In the dialup days I used to worry when I -didn't- hear that sound. If a modem was quiet, I couldn't tell it was doing anything! I'd try my damndest to make sure the modem made noise when attempting to connect.
Otherwise I'd be sitting there staring at Trumpet, and later the "Connecting.." box on Win95, wondering if the modem was doing anything at all. -- In dadkins' memory, Think outside the Fox... |

Modems ruled the roost for about 20 years. I mean from the early to mid 80s until around 2002-2003.. most people still utilized dialup.... |
