| Slow connection
Hi, I Subscribe 2 weeks ago and it took 6 days to have my internet working. Last week I started to have 2.5 Mbps/0.6 connection and now I have this
I went to bell.ca and use their on line chat with the representative he did checked and confirmed my line can handle 5 Mbps and guaranteed minimum 4.5 Mbps, is there anyway I could achieve that speed since you offering 5 Mbps?.
Thanks |

| Please send me your Acanac ID. A "Guaranteed minimum 4.5 Mbps" sounds strange statement for DSL connection. Which Bell number did you call? The "standard" 5M DSL service could not give you 5Mbps on speedtest, regardless of provider's name unless the profile is set to 6M (some lines, when you order a Business account could run 6M profiles) Now, some companies offer ADSL2 for limited areas, but that is another thing. Let me check what is your situation as Acanac user.

| Well, unfortunately, the same company which you chat with ....may promise you these megabytes ... but it shows another story behind the scenes. The profile actually is set to 3M Interleave. Acanac Support promptly requested your line to be checked and that was the result (Yesterday). According to the note, if you have problems, they could be "interior" ones.
Thanks |

| Just for the records this is my brother's connection
I live 15 km away from him, he's close to 7 Mbps promise to him by his ISP. As you can see, same server test distance 250 miles. I use this server location because that's where my on line game server is located.
Thanks |

in DSL world, speed is directly connected with the distance you are from the CO or Remote where your line is connected. if you are more than 4-5km away, it can be a big problem....
I'm sure your brother is less than 3-4km away from the CO or Remote if he really get those speed... If there is no problem on your line, you are at least 4km away...
the distance from the test server has nothing to do with the speed you can get on your line... |

| I know I'm "15km away" but you see he is close to the advertising 7 Mbps from that company. I was told I'm not gonna be able to get that speed by that company, but I was also told my line should handled 5 Mbps and guaranteed 4.5 Mbps Minimum for my area is what I'm pointing out. |

If your line can only handle 4.5Mbps, I'm sure you are too far away from the CO or remote to get a perfect signal on your line.
post your modem stat... we will see what you've got for now and if there is any room for any improvement on your line... |

| reply to Onky5870 There is another detail, especially about these 7M profiles. I need to verify something, because I have no access to Sympatico files. The Wholesaler's ISPs are given explicitly the following Standard DSL profiles, max 5M - Home & 6M Business. Some ISP's started hooking a separate service ADSL2+ but that is another story. Does anybody know how this Sympatico 7M is qualified? Thanks |

That's right, what you think But the people who check the line and decide what to set ... think differently. Unfortunately, I couldn't trace back the previous profile. One of previous Acanac's tickets has a note that Lantern was not showing at all. It could be anything even 7M Left-over, or 5M AL1. Now it is 3M AL2. |

| reply to Onky5870 I was going to tell and ask my brother and some of my friends to switch to Acanac. Because we all don't like Bell charging too much with limited bandwidth. My brother download lots of stuff and play on line games, I too play on line but I am a casual gamer and when I like to play I can't enjoy the game because of this slow connection. I am also planning to build HTPC for my wife because she like to watch streaming video on the net.
My friends are subscribers of internet TV so they don't like limited bandwidth. Some of them complaining getting charge for going over their limit. I can't recommend your ISP if they are going to have lots of buffering while watching their TV.
I know Acanac is cheaper for now but in a year your going to be expensive too. I'm sorry if I am pain in the ass, but I really like to get my connection be useful for my need.
Thanks |
