| [Windows] Firewall need on a server box?
Hi,
Our company has a few windows server 2003 boxes. All workstations and servers are on the same VLAN.
In the past, there was an admin installing a application filtering firewall on each server.
Now, there is a new admin trying to remove them on each server. We all disagree but he claims it's slow down the traffic on the server.
I am like, All servers will slow down traffic within 5-10% margin as it's checking packets. I don't think that with the firewall on the top of TCP/IP layer, the server can sustain in 100% bandwidth of the traffic.
He argues that there is no need to put a firewall in an argument sake. He claims even tho he enables a full allow for both inbound and outbound, it's still slowing down.
Can anybody give me some of your opinon about this situation?
Thanks.
