Need a bigger bolder more visible IM indicator

I'm sure this has been requested before but I would like an IM indicator thats a bit more pronounced than a little blinking yellow post-it looking icon. Too easy to miss sometimes, I'm starting to get in the habit of looking for it. It should be something that immediately grabs my attention.

Well, a simple way (if you're using Firefox):

DSLR Notifier 2 2.7.1

You can get a popup or slider alert. Also, the existing icon shows up better with a dark theme instead the default one (to me anyway).

Plus, if--again--you're using Firefox (with Stylish), this can double the size of the icon (zoom 2x):
Of course, you could also replace it with something like this:

Further, you could just change the background color to something that contrasts with the yellow (and/or red) icon; instead of width/height:
