| All GONE! My girlfriends sidekick lost all of her ring tones. She told me yesterday "they simply have not come back yet, since being reset"....I guess I will have to tell her the bad news, that they will never come back.
She did get a text message yesterday that she is getting a months worth of data credits to her account.
I have never given her phone much attention, but is everything stored off the device??? If so, why? If she takes the battery out of her phone, or the battery dies, it is many hours - several days before all of her settings and functions return..seems very stupid to me. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |

That does seem very stupid. I was never aware of this before. I always thought the sidekick was more like Android, where data is kept locally, and only certain information is saved off-device for backup purposes. -- "What makes us omniscient? For example, WAP 1.0 used "gateways" for alot of things, such as converting XML WML to binary XML WML , and convert HTML to XML WML. I believe some gateways even lowered color depth on images to what the phone can handle. |

That's interesting, I never knew sidekicks were old technology, I LOVED the fact that I could access my texts, phone book, pictures, notes, did I mention phone book? online! There were times where I have left my phone in the car, home, etc and I can just get numbers I need online. |

I meant in general when her phone died...way before this event happened...and I could never understand why everything was lost for days on end. I guess now I know. Although it looks like her ring tones are indeed gone. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |

| reply to swintec Both actually. A sidekick's data is cached locally when turned on. Changes made (adding things to calendar, etc) are replicated to the Danger servers immediately. When turned off, the local cache is cleared either partially or entirely.
There are few things that the user can back up for themselves. Obviously, this includes anything on the mini-SD and anything on the SIM. My aging Sidekick 3 can store contacts and text messages on the SIM, but doesn't default to storing on the SIM. Everything else is subject to potential loss.
Anyone who has had their sidekick turned on continuously throughout the service disruption should not have lost anything at all. -- In dadkins' memory, Think outside the Fox... |
