network (east coast / west coast)

I have a quick ? hopefully someone can answer. I know Phone Power is located in CA, but for those of us that live on the east coast, does Phone Power have regional servers in the US, what I mean is, for people on the west coast they'd connect to the VoIP server in CA, but east coasters would connect to perhaps NYC, ATL or what have you - mainly for latency reasons between the two coasts.

Thanks.

There servers are all in Cali. There are people that use the service all around the US. Latency has never been an issues. I personally think if the network is built well, the whole geo-location is more of a sales pitch to ignorant people?

Highly doubtful it is a sales pitch. Many prominent and successful VoIP providers have servers located in different regions of the country.

I use PhonePower mostly in New York but have brought the adapter to Los Angeles and used it there. I don't notice any difference.

Yup, and so am I. Having servers scattered around the US may help for redundancy but ya not going to notice 10 or 20 ms

I'm in CA. When I used CallVantage, the server was in Georgia. Never had the slightest bit of trouble despite going cross country.

Something to be said about having all eggs in one basket, "so to speak".

Oh and Hi everyone in Phone Power land I am new to the service coming from BroadvoxDirect (by duress). Anyway I may or may not stay but so far service itself is flawless since I been on Oct 5.

Well considering how PP has treated me and others with excellent service. With only 6 hours or so of downtime due to a server crash I'm not complaining. I would rather put all my eggs in one basket and take my chances over ViaCrap and other providers less then stellar service.

I think Phone Power needs to set up a central or eastern US presence.

I live in NJ. Round trip latency between NJ and CA is around 70ms over AT&T's core backbone. That means that average latency for coast-to-coast VoIP, if we include VoIP packet bucket delay, is at least 75-80ms, and that's before adding in latency from my ISP (FiOS currently). For me, latency is about 1/10 of a second.

If they had a central US presence, total latency would probably be around 30-40ms, and with an eastern US presence, probably less than 20ms.

The high round trip latency between east and west coast is especially problematic for data connections. For a VoIP call, each audio stream is essentially independent. But for data streams, high latency like this can cause problems. Old Tivos that use a modem have a very hard time working over my Phone Power lines, but I never had a problem with AT&T CallVantage, probably because CV had an east coast presence. I think an East coast, Ohio valley, Tennessee valley, or even Chicago or Dallas location would make a good candidate for a second site.

I wonder has anyone west of the Mississippi has had any experience with a data modem or fax using PP?
