I'm not sure where you live, but you might want to check your local computer liquidator. I live around 4 o4 5 small shops that sell them. I'd be surprised if there were any 416 area codes left. Could anyone advise me a trustworthy site to purchase it online from? I also read somewhere that only MJ devices with updated chips can have a canadian number, which sites offer these MJ devices with the updated chips?

And how long can i expect delivery to take?

Only thing i didn't like is I got a 226-444-XXXX number, not a 519-xxx-xxxx number. I guess you can't even buy area code 519 in this area, they're all pretty much reserved for the other providers if anything is left.

So, paid the $5 change and $10 extra cost for Canadian number. Good timing, I got ride of my $7.99 + taxes last month vonage account, been missing the home line occasionally, now I got it again!

A bit of confusion is an understatement! 4 URL's going to the same page?? That certainly makes ME wonder ... :p

I think the above-mentioned sites are located in BC. Got mine through www.themagicjack.ca/ out of Hamilton, Ontario.

Had mine for over a year. On a DSL fastpath line. Voice quality is the same as good ol' POTS (beats the voice quality of my cell phone hands down - no contest). Some people have had problems with dropouts, etc. Wonder if they might be on interleave?

They're not magicJack. As far as I know there's only one main company and all the others that use "magicJack" in their name are merely distributors and/or resellers of the device.

On the one hand they seem to be marketing the MJ product and service in Canada ... on the other hand, they seem to be bad mouthing (and competing with) MJ and its parent company YMAX.

Apparently YMAX had applied to the Canadian Board of "whatever" to be approved as a CLEC, which would have enabled direct marketing to Canadians, providing Canadian DIDs thru YMAX.

But the CMJ site cited above and grrr's reply suggest that CMJ is using other sources for their DIDs.

Don't fret, I do!! I just don't keep it plugged into the computer 24/7.

It's easier to use the normal phone rather than attaching the box. Once I attach a cordless phone to it, that may change as well.

Where the thing shines is calling from hotel rooms. The Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup before Magic Jack gets local numbers in Canada. RockyBB: The Toronto Maple Leafs will win two (2) consecutive Stanley Cups first before the real MJ will have Canadian phone #'s. (wish we had the emoticon here of it rolling on the floor killing itself laughing!) W-A-Y-Y-Y too much bureaucratic red tape, w-a-y-y too much palm grease required.

I use mine as outgoing calls only. Only our relatives in the US have our US #, as it would be a local call for them. Therefore, the MJ unit is only plugged in during anticipated times as scheduled. We put well under 1000 minutes/month on the device, but it still ends up saving us a lot of $$$. Yeah, Victor said the same thing to me back in February of 2008, but for me the service is worth it. Got the US#, Canadian # wasn't available. I see some arrangement has been made now, but just like any Canadian telecommunications product, it's supremely overpriced. Information is poor.
