| I am amazed at what Bell is doing right now with there High Speed Internet. They do care and they are spending the money in upgrading there service. Yes there is lots of room for improvement, but they are taking the steps to get there. First off ill let you know I work for Bell Canada as a technician doing CO, Rez and Biz I&R.
In the past year they started a project where they would call HS customers that were receiving poor service or were not near neighbourhood values and would set up an appointment and have a tech come fix there line, whether it was inside or out for free, and install a POTS splitter. Well the results were very good and most people received a significant increase in there speed. Now it is mandatory to install a POTS splitter on all HS repairs and Full desktop installations with customers subscribing to performance or greater, which is 3Mb+. For those who don't know what a POTS splitter is, ill give a brief explanation. A POTS splitter is a small device that is put up close to the dmarc usually. From the dmarc the phone line comes in to the POTS splitter and then there are two ports out. One for all your phone line and one for a line that will go directly to the jack your modem is plugged in. It could be either a new phone wire or a second pair on an existing phone wire. This will negate all filters and provide a direct path for the internet, therefore no more bridge/end taps on your ISW.
As well Bell is in the process of moving some of there High speed traffic off the old ATM network to the new Gig E network, I would assume the end goal is to get all the traffic to the Gig E network.
Also more and more stinger cabinets are being installed, bringing the fibre network closer to home. Allowing faster speeds all around.
Unfortunately this cannot happen all at once and some areas are better for dsl than others. Improvements are well under the way though. |
