| [BOINC] What is going on?
I was trying to test for some bad ram and needed to test all my "windows" memory. I clicked "exit" and "ok" on boinc. The program will NOT stop running in the background.

This 6.2.28version is installed for all users, but NOT AS A SERVICE. In fact, all my Boincs are installed the same way. I checked another pc, It does the same. Am I confused? Why won't the program stop running? -- Things I like - Team Discovery - Quads©3.3 to 4.0ghz - Strawberry Ice cream

1 edit | That's weird.
I just exited out of the tray.. it double checked & asked me
And my task manager shows no processes related to BOINC running. Same version as you

Do you remember if you installed your program for "ALL USERS" ? |

You had the checkmark in the top box, right? To stop running when exiting? |

1 edit | Well. this is no good. All these months I've exited before restarts, so I could save a restore point, hasn't done a bit of good.
I re-checked another 6.2.28, I'll see what's on those other 2 pc's.
EDIT: Glennaxl must be right... 2 machines with 6.2.28 will NOT shut-down. 2 machines with 5.10.45 WILL shut down. To the best of my memory, I have ALWAYS installed for "all users".
No wonder I've been having all these problems running memtest....and other things. |

| Ok, I did a repair type re-install over the existing 6.2.28, It fixed the problem without even a re-start. However, I think I just did that a few days ago when it SEEMED like my machine wasn't calling home. Since I am testing for a ram problem, I thought surely it was this machine.
Not so, I did the same with the other 6.2.28 machine and it ALSO fixed the problem. That eliminates the "all user setting" as a possible cause.
Since I did a repair re-install a few days ago on the first machine, I strongly suspect that bug which Glennaxl mentioned. I will be cautiously watching to see if this version defaults back to the same error.
At least now I can go test my ram. -- Things I like - Team Discovery - Quads©3.3 to 4.0ghz - Strawberry Ice cream

| reply to lilhurricane said by lilhurricane :WCG Boinc versions? It doesn't matter if WCG or BOINC in general, they have the same core, the difference is just cosmetics (eg. the icon).
Here's the version (6.6.35) that fixes the problem. |

Here's the version (6.6.35) that fixes the problem. glennaxl is correct there was a problem with shutting down both Boinc and the Client in that version of Boinc. I had to use task manager and shut down both boinc and the executable to stop the process. This condition was later resolved in the next version of Boinc. -- ****aka The WIZARD *** A Founding member of Seti BBR Team Starfire*** |
