Re: You don't say Golden, CO - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, CricKet Fredericksburg, TX - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, CricKet, Pocket Communications, Five Star Wireless (local) Fort Pierce, FL - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, US Cellular
Of the above non-big-four carriers, two are CDMA (CricKet, Pocket), one is GSM with a CDMA roamer network (Five Star).
A local telephone cooperative in the Fredericksburg area also intends to do something with the 1700MHz spectrum they have. What exactly, they're not sure yet.
I'm thinking that most folks have at least five cellular providers to choose from. Usually the big four plus either CricKet or MetroPCS in urban/suburban areas or a local/regional carrier in rural areas.
The thing is, CricKet (and maybe MetroPCS) run their networks so differently than the top-tier carriers that they aren't good acquisition targets except for each other. There are a double handful of small unlimited carriers out there that CricKet or MetroPCS might eventually buy up, but not if those carriers are GSM. The big four might go ahead and buy a local carrier or two, but probably not. At this point Sprint could buy US Cellular since the company finally has n EvDO Rev. A network, but that's rather unlikely... |
