Lemme guess, the only way to get new firmware for these is to email 2Wire and pray they'll unlock the upgrade page or there are other avenues?

A buddy of mine has one of these, and for some reason his does not have WPA.

The 1000HW (2002) predates wpa
The 1000SW can run software versions up to 4.25.13
