| And how many errors are too many?
They fixed the IP address conflict problem by assigning IP addresses rather than having the system pick them.
After replacing the modem the errors seemed to be better, but perhaps there is still a problem. |

1 edit | Pretty much any errors on a line isn't a good thing. If it's one or two errors here and there, that's fine. Your errors are due to the lower SNR as if you notice, there are more errors on the line when the SNR is lower. If Frontier has done everything they can do, then there's not much they can really do and they're stuck with how DSL in it's nature is. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| This morning, between 6:30 and 7:30 I had over 1M errors every 15 minutes. In the 6 hours since then I had about 200 errors ever 15 minutes. Probably it will go back up again later on.
During the bad period my email won't work and my wireless connection shows no connectivity.
What would be causing this? I am about 1/2 mile from their big box where all the wires go, and about 3 miles from their switching station (or whatever you call the building that handles telephones for the area; obviously I don't know much about telephones). The neighborhood is about 30 years old.
I see that I have 3 options: 1) Live with it 2) Complain again to Frontier, and have them ask me what I expect them to do when they don't see a problem. (Their machine shows no bad connections and they replaced the modem.) 3) Consider their failure to provide me with consistent service a breach of contract (I have 16 months left of a contract with a big cancellation fee) and change to RoadRunner.
Any advice would be appreciated. |

| Big Box? Can you take and upload a picture of this box? I'm wondering what that might be. The switching station you're probably thinking of is a CO. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| Sorry its fuzzy; a combination of not taking my glasses, low light, and having to shoot between cars. I don't recall what that building is called, but the tech said it controlled all the lines in town.
After being at 200 error/15 minutes, it went up to 800,000/15 minutes for 2 hours, and now it is back down to 200.
We aren't doing anything different here. I have disconnected phones, ran the microwave, downloaded big files, and everything else I can think of; nothing I do makes a difference. It has to be something before the house. Or so it seems to me, but of course I know nothing. |

1 edit | That box there could be either a very small remote terminal or it could also be a POTS cross connect/something else involving POTS. Were you able to ask any of the Frontier techs how long your line was to the DSL exchange? If you're 2.5-3 miles of wire away from the CO/RT, that would explain your lower margins, higher attenuation and line errors.
Based on your attenuation as a rough estimate, I believe your line is just over 12,000ft in length to where the DSLAM is. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |
