Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but is there any way to filter out the iPhone chatter here? Some like me don't have one, don't want one, and would rather not have to wade through dozens of iPhone topics to get at the Mac meat. I know I can select specific tags for display, but I need a way to 'unselect' the iPhone one so they don't show up. Thanks! |

| reply to 60529262 That's funny. I asked some time ago for a way to filter for 'none' (a widely used category under which to post AND the default) as a filer choice for a back-door way to do what you're asking and got a resounding middle finger for my effort.
I guess you just suck it up 'round yonder. -- |

| reply to EveryName Well, I see someone was a bit trippy with the topic move, considering the forum hosts set up the little tags I am referring to and this is specific to the Mac forum. Anyway,
said by EveryName :Does it take long to ignore a thread about an iPhone and just not open it? It takes way too much time to scroll through all the iPhone chaff to get to the real Mac wheat. Sorry if I offended you.
For example, at this moment of the 100 most recent threads in All Things Crackintosh at least 37 are iPhone specific.
Since the tags are already there and mostly being used it would be very nice to be able to filter them out. No muss, no fuss, no mindless iPhone chatter. I tried clicking on "Leo" and "Snow" and "OX S" and either there is little actual Mac information in there or the tags are not working right.
So, since this was moved to "Need Site Help", how about a way to do what is essentially a simple exclusion (e. g. -iPhone)? |

| reply to 60529262 I don't have an iPhone either, so I just mentally ignore all the iPhone threads. It really takes less time to not click on any specified thread than it does to click and read what you are interested in. -- I was born at night... but not last night! |

1 edit | The filtering functionality would significantly improve the site's usability and has very little overhead that is not already involved with selecting a tag for display. But that doesn't appear to be a priority and since you seem to speak for the site I'll just find my Mac info elsewhere.
C'est la vie |

| I don't speak for anyone but myself. It's just that in these days of instant communication and gratification, a lot of folks seem to think clicking a mouse is actually work. And not clicking a mouse seems to be even more work... for some people.
If Justin wants to make every suggested change, it's fine with me. I'll figure out a way to deal with it. -- I was born at night... but not last night! |

Having proper filters would make the site more usable, and therefore more valuable as both a resource and an ad vehicle. Like I said, almost all of the functionality to exclude certain tagged threads from view is already here.
Justin has disappeared for months in the past. Nothing unusual there. |

The first time, IIRC (I've not re-read the thread), I was parroting the poster who used bold to object. The second time I can't remember except that the objections seemed obligatory and capricious (bi-polar?) given that the request would make everyone's life easier when it comes to filtering posts. I mean, c'mon, think about it. If 'None' is an option, in this case the default, then one can obviously filter for 'None'. It's not a solution, but it would eliminate the iPhone posts. Granted, it would eliminate many others, too! But it would be a way to filter for posts where no one selected one of the options given them. -- |
