Mystro in Tampa Bay

I awoke to static blasting from my tv in the wee hours and saw it was tuned to channel 1 (On Demand). Thinking I'd rolled over on the remote or something I started fumbling with the remote and saw Guide was 'different'. When I got up this morning, I flipped on the tv and once again it tuned to channel 1, but I had changed that eons ago to tune to last channel. Remembering the fog from last night I started playing with it, and it appears the only thing changed was the power on channel and the loss of program reminders I had set. This is an Explorer 4250HDC box, but neither of my DVR's (1 regular, one HD) had been pushed the new software.

So far I'm liking Mystro, seems quicker for On Demand channels..anybody else get the update? Thoughts?

The issues are numerous let me list our favorites after four days of being in "PRE FIOS" buying mood. All previous user settings are lost - Thanks for that upgrade! When moving up and down the channels it will freeze and the only resolution is to Re-Boot box - See step 1. Text on screen from financial shows is distorted. Three technicians have accused us of not having a brighthouse remote - You know what we may soon have a FIOS remote. Picture size is diminished by 25% - 30% their solution Stretch baby so the people look like they have all gained about 30 pounds while either cutting off the legs, heads, arms of various actors. Looks Like I just returned to the basic 640x - 320x resolution of the pre 1990 monitors. Pixels and gaps in picture similar to when watching Direct TV and you have blocks of screen square up for the pixel dance. The new color scheme and text font do not match to the TV. White text on blue background but the total white banner around the screen takes display space away from the text area. The Left of Center light blue background is terrible for reading. I think this kind of sums up our thoughts. To date we have never considered swapping out to FIOS. We have been a TimeWarner/RR/Brighthouse user since the mid 80's. This is not what we expected from the update and working in technology I do understand change is always coming. However, when you have to change your Voice Response system to #1 on pick up " If you are having display problems with the out of tune Mystro update press 1", is indicative of poor planning and chaos at the office. The engineers need to go back to the drawing board. I wonder did we just go the Apple Mac way and now only certain tv's and software will work with the Brighthouse. PSST The lights are out and no one is home and the Verizon guy just knocked on the door.

Tech support finally acknowledged to me that external SATA drives are not supported by the current software, and that any fix is likely one or two months away.

I wouldn't mind being a "beta tester" if were given some means of direct-to-developer feed-back. But I have none.

If I did, one of the first things I would report is that in LIST displays the PAGE key moves things in the OPPOSITE direction than the UP/DOWN keys in any context involving date! And if after a month's vacation I try to catch up with Saturday Night Live, every item in the list is labeled just SAT!

Re: Mystro in Tampa Bay

I had it updated on one of my boxes today. Strange all of them didn't get hit and they all are the same type of box.

I also didn't lose any settings on the one that was updated. But I didn't have a favorites set up.

I had my box "upgraded" today and my external drive stopped working. Called tech support and they told me this was by design. I then filed a complaint through the phone and via their web site that they need to resolve this or I will be going elsewhere.

Beachie, who told you that they would be supporting this in a couple of months?

I believe you meant BuhrmanP, I never said anything about that.

Noticed alot of glitching and stuttering when I watch any channel. It makes the shows unwatchable. The video/audio lags. The brighthouse tech said it should be resolved in 2-3 months. Also none of my sports packages work any more It says I have to reorder them. So Im going to end up paying for something TWICE Awesome! This was a great move on Bright Houses part. I will be switching to Verizon.

Sorry Beachie I hit reply on the wrong link.

I called tech support and they said external SATA no workie by design. I vented on the bright house web site and within 24 hours, Customer support wrote me back saying to unplug the hard drive, reboot the box, plug it back in and it would work. I fully expected to have this not work, but to my surprise, it did. Lost all my previous recordings, but hey, at least it's working.

External SATA on Bright House 8300HDC running Mystro verified as working.

Thank you Bright House!

THAT'S JUST GREAT!!!! so when the new program guide gets updated i lose my 500GB e-sata DVR recordings.

THAT STINKS

ChipJr3

@rr.com

Didn't you lose all those programs on your external hard drive every time the power goes out?

Are people having problems with pause and replay? We can't pause live shows nor can we go backwards to replay what we just watched or missed. We also can't change the screen resolution. When we go in to the "Settings" menu ---> "Output Resolution" it has several settings (Auto select, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). When we try to change the setting to any of the options and click "save / return" it always goes back to "480p"? Anyone able to change output resolution?

BTW - does anyone know where the manual or user guides is for Mystro?

NO i did not lose all my programs when the power was down because i have a APC 1500 VA backup Battery hooked up to my SA 8300HD DVR and my seagate 500GB DVR Expander.

Would you describe how you brought up your external in complete detail?

There are some odd effects of power up/down and plugs in/out with the 8300HDC. I even suspect that the SA DVR has knowlege of whether or not something is plugged in the socket, independent of any power or signal hand-shaking.

I just recieved this update. I hear the static blasting from another room. I must say, I love the new look of the menues/preview guide. We'll see how well it works without problems.

This is an HD DVR box.

and what's this with external drives on the box?

I received the update last night as well. It interrupted my late night TV viewing, first with the Mystro install, then about an hour later with another update. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but I can tell you that my resolutions all seem to be fine and my external hard drive is working fine with all recordings intact. So far, so good. Will try it out in more detail tonight.

By "describe" I mean report each tedious step, a la "Installing an External Drive for Dummies". E.g.: (1) insert SATA cable in drive; (2) insert SATA cable in DVR ...... etc.

The manual for "My DVR Expander" has esoteric instructions like these, and they worked for me before the Mystro update.

OK first off you DO NOT PLUG the Power of the DVR Expander into the Power Outlet on the back of the SA 8300HD DVR.

Next you plug the E-SATA cable into the back of your DVR on one side, do not power on the DVR Expander Yet, then plug the the other end of the cable into the DVR Expander, now connect the power cable to a power outlet, the green LED Light on the power Brick should be glowing, plug the cable from the power brick into the back of you DVR Expander, then on your tv screen you'll see a prompt that state's you need to Format your DVR Expander hit the ok button on your remote it takes a few minutes to Format your DVR Expander, your set top box will restart when that's done hit the list button on your remote, if the DVR is at 90 percent full depending on the size of your DVR Expander, For Example my DVR Expander is 500GB the 160GB internal HDD was full at 100 percent in the DVR recording's LIST with the DVR Expander installed my storage capacity went from 100 percent full to 31 percent full.

Well that concludes today's Lesson on Installing an External E-SATA Drive for the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC for Dummies. Hope it was informative, this is Bigdaddy. Good Night America.
