[FireFox] Firefox 3.6 fast and faster

"With Windows 7 scheduled for general availability in about a week, Mozilla is getting ready to support some of its best known features as they progressively come to Firefox 3.6 nightly development releases"...»mozillalinks.org/wp/

Expect a Faster Firefox
The Mozilla Firefox developers are planning to release the first beta of the upcoming web browser Firefox 3.6 next week (to be precise on October 14 which is also the release date for the beta of Firefox 3.5.4). Not that many Firefox users will take notice of these two beta version releases but those that do will notice performance improvements in Firefox 3.6 beta. The Mozilla team is not only concentrating on the usual options to increase the web browser’s performance (that is JavaScript mainly) but also performance of the web browser in general which would include loading times and responsiveness."...»www.ghacks.net/2009/10/10/expert···xt-week/

It is fast, but all of the nightly releases I've tried had the nasty habit of suddenly showing a blank page, unless you ran the mouse pointer over it & parts of the page would show, or click on reload. Sent bug reports in, hope they help.

They told the same about 3.5 when people were using 3.0.x, and indeed, with a blank profile, it indeed felt faster........

I've been with this Mozilla browser since it was called Firebird maybe even before (Phoenix?). Anyway I love Firefox 3.5. But I'm also occasionally objective. IE8 (on my WINXP SP3 machine) is demonstrably faster than Firefox. Yet hope springs eternal....

I have noticed that IE 8 is faster than firefox as well. You can see on my sig line what I am running it on.

Anyone know how long it usually takes for Beta 1 to go to finished product? I have not really kept uo with release dates previously. I was on a dial up connection before and it proved to slow for FF to work its best but now on a faster connection and am looking forward to FF upgrades.

Firefox 3.6 Beta 1 is now available for download
October 30th, 2009 at 4:20 pm

The Mozilla community is proud to release Firefox 3.6 Beta 1 for download. This beta version of the next version of Firefox is built on the Gecko 1.9.2 web rendering engine, containing many improvements for web developers, Add-on developers, and users. The Mozilla community appreciates your feedback and assistance in testing this preview of the next version of Firefox. Your beta software will update itself periodically, and eventually will be updated to the final release itself.

This first revision of the Beta of Firefox 3.6 / Gecko 1.9.2 introduces several new features:
    • Users can now change their browser’s appearance with a single click, with built in support for Personas.
    • Firefox 3.6 will alert users about out of date plugins to keep them safe.
    • Open, native video can now be displayed full screen, and supports poster frames.• Support for the WOFF font format.
    • Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness and startup time.
    • Support for new CSS, DOM and HTML5 web technologies.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I was under the impression that FireFox was going to undergo some changes to the GUI to make it more streamlined. I remember mock designs being toyed around with a few months back. Is that not going to occur with the 3.6 release or will GUI changes be made later in testing?

I think the UI changes are more geared towards 3.7 and 4.0.

3.7 is months away and 4.0 is at least a year away

I'm pretty sure it was going to be in ver 4. Most of those articles where even titled Firefox 4 mockups.

Does Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2b2pre) Gecko/20091101 Namoroka/3.6b2pre - Build ID: 20091101045408 crash for anyone else when you go to say »www.microsoft.com ????

I keep trying, and keep getting the "Were sorry, but Firefox has crashed" message & sends a report back with details. I know that Mozilla corp & Microsoft are sworn enemies, but I'm just a pawn in the game of browsing!

I took the plunge tonight and installed 3.6 Beta 1.. Maybe it's just me but, so far it appears to be quite a bit faster then 3.5.4.

I'm not completely nuts about "Persona" but I'll trade my LavaFox Blue theme for the new features.

Okay, I think it's IETab doing it. When I go without IETab enabled, it works fine. With IETabs enabled & www.microsoft.com added to the list of sites to use with it, it crashes. Hmmm....Fx 3.5.5 works fine with it.

I would report the issue to the IE Tab developer.

Have they included this as a default option in 3.6 instead of an extension now?

I had it installed a year ago and it caused all sorts of problems!

It worked without the addon at first but had problems keeping a persistent persona. I have installed the addon and now the persona stays persistent after a reload.

It's fast and it's a tad touchy.."Beta" What's not to love?

---two edits--- I'm a tard..

Is it just me or did the 'Properties' menu option completely disappear here in 3.6?
