Re: Slow speeds after upgrading to 12 or 18 meg internet | XP OS

First of all I'd never use a site like that it can cause more harm then good. It's been pruven over the years on this site.

Secondly it's Fiber to the Node but from the node to your house it's copper wiring.

.... FTTN.... Its still going through twisted pair to the home, and not a crappy single copper line.

Just upgraded yesterday due to an aggressive Customer Service rep ( i called for cell phone issue which was resolved but got side-tracked). So for the extra $10 per month was anticipating 1/3 faster speeds. Checked just now and indeed improved from 11.41 Mbps to 16.99 Mbps download but upload did not (remained the same at 1.41 Mbps). Is it normal for no or minimal upload speed change? I was told AT&T GUARANTEES download speed but NOT upload speed with any Internet connectivity subscription level.

I believe upload speeds are determined by your bandwidth. 19mb gives up to 1.5 , 25mb gives up to 2 and 32mb gives up to 5.

Both the 12 and 18 plans have 1.5 upload, so I wouldn't expect that to change. My speeds with the 18 plan--which, by the way, is not a guaranteed 18 but rather 12-18, so all the guarantee you get with the 18 is a minimum of 12. I'm in Houston.

It sucks that I moved from Atlantic broadband to Uverse just for 2 mb more, they have only 16 mb but atlantic is planning in 40mb/3 upload plan,I dont see any plans of uverse to increase the speed,I hope my connection is good when i switch this coming thursday.
So far in miami beach they dont even have the 24mb speed package

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm having this issue as well. I had 12Mbps for a while and was getting consistent 10-11Mbps. Now that I upgraded to 18, I'm getting 9-11Mbps. What gives? I have a 3801HGV and I'm directly connected to it.

Hopefully someone will still see this!
Thanks!

Probably should just start a new thread rather than bumping old threads.

Couple of things to try. First, reboot the router. Can just unplug everything from the source if you dont know how to do this. If you are still not getting the speed, you should call their tech support and insist on a tier 2 tech.

You're right - I figured this was a dead thread when I posted.

The first thing I did was reboot the router. I also closed apps that I know use a constant connection (steam, etc.) Later that day (when I posted) I contacted tier 2 support and the tech agreed that there was a problem.

Something to note: I'm practically on top of the VRAD. I know this is good, but it can also be bad - if the speeds are too high, then my router can "melt". I'm sure they have some wire coiled underground to prevent such occurrences, but he wasn't certain.

Anyway, he tried to re-establish the connection in the db, but it kept returning a generic error and ctd. So he tried to remove the entire connection and re-establish it, but he was denied access! His supervisor had to initiate the removal before he could reinstate it - now my speeds are approximately 17.5Mbps.

He wasn't quite sure what the issue was, but it has been rectified now. I should've deleted my post or at least edited it to show that I no longer needed assistance, but tbh, I forgot about it.
