| Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
After a long hiatus, we're happy to announce the release of Tomato/MLPPP v1.25-mp3alpha6. This release brings us up to date with the latest build of Tomato, and makes some other minor fixes. The most important one is an update to the default LCP settings that should significantly improve stability due to incorrect settings used in alpha 4 and 5.

Known issues
* UPnP does not work at all with 1:1 NAT. This will be fixed by the first beta of mp3. * The PPP bundle will occasionaly stop accepting IP traffic when reconnecting a line to the bundle. We're planning to have a workaround for this at the very least.
Changelog
* Fixed a typo ("dissabled by user") * Updated base Tomato to v1.25 * Fixed the default LCP settings to avoid excess disconnections * Added a system to allow updating settings the first time a new version is booted * Added an override to change users' LCP settings on first boot if they're still using the alpha 4 defaults.
Future Plans
Forgot to update this in the documentation, here's the correct list:
v1.25-mp3beta1: * Add a watchdog for the dead-link issue to at least maintain connectivity * Fix UPnP with 1:1 NAT
v1.21-mp4: * Add UI support for three or more modems * Make the behaviour when a dead link is detected configurable; either wait for the remote end to identify a dead link and degrade to one line, or immediately rebuild the bundle, changing the IP in the process.
v1.21-mp5: * Try to do sanity checks on invalid external 1:1 NAT IPs |

| Sweet. Not sure if I'll update now since it's been up since the TSI usage meter went down and it's got all my usage tracked since May. Bah I'll probably go for it anyways, I can't resist updates. :P
BTW, what are the new LCP default settings? I ended up using Echo Interval: 10, Adaptive Interval: 0, and Echo Fail: 12 to keep it from dropping. |

| reply to pnjunction 5/0/12. That should lead to roughly one minute to detect a connection (or, ignore connectivity issues less than one minute long, such as a resync).
Your settings would require about 2 minutes to detect a disconnection.
We added the forced update of the LCP settings (only if your settings match alpha 4 defaults) because we know that, no matter how much we say it, people rarely reset their NVRAM like we tell them to. Some even back up their config, reset, then restore their config, which UNDOES the reset. Sigh. Luckily, our forced update should be able to handle that. |

| reply to Guspaz Awesome news.
Just to make sure: for my ASUS WL-500gP V2 router I need tomato-ND.trx ?
Also, is it fine if i reset the NVRAM but load up settings from older tomato? It would suck to redo all the QoS filters.
Thanks again for the awesome work. |

| reply to Guspaz Looks good so far. The route modem IP didn't work at first but it does now. Ewww, I forgot how ugly the default red colour scheme is, the blue is much easier on my eyes.
Clusty, it says in the readme and Guspaz said in this thread that reloading an old config negates the NVRAM reset and makes it pointless. |

1 edit | reply to Guspaz If you're upgrading from mp3alpha4, there is no direct need to reset the firmware (although if you changed the LCP defaults, you may want to fix those).
However, we still always recommend nvram resets. Just like reinstalling Windows, the occasional nvram reset does you good.
Also, most of the time, an nvram reset *is* required between Tomato/MLPPP versions.
EDIT: Actually, since we're taking you from Tomato v1.21 to v1.25, an nvram update is *probably* required for stability. |

| Only noticed one thing. No more front LED any longer under the Cisco logo, or ability to select in under Administration/Buttons. Other then that I am going to give it a good run. Thank you so much for all of your hard work guys and everyone here as well. |

| Apparently LED was changed in 1.24.
Startup LED options removed from GUI. You can still enable LEDs at startup by adding any of the following lines in Admin:Scripts:Init: led amber on led white on led aoss on |

| reply to Guspaz Just got a WRT54G yesterday and running it for the first time tonight, making sure it works as-is considering where it came from. Of course I want to get Tomato on it right away...it'll be my first use of a router with Tomato (been using the software MLPPP option built-in Windows with a direct modem connection).
Would you guys recommend I start by flashing with alpha 6, or stick with an older "stable" version?
Also wondering if holding down the reset button for 30 seconds actually cleared out the NVRAM (there's a factory reset option in the menus I noticed). |

| reply to Guspaz well upgraded but i had to trash all my settings
After update from previous version it would show that it is connected to the net (pppoe) but I would have no internet.
Ohh well. Now I gotta figure out those pesky QoS settings all over again.
Is there a way how I could read the old conf file? (plain text dump) |

| reply to Guspaz Well, went ahead and decided to jump right in with this update, it appears to have flashed OK and working! (I'll have to wait until after 4pm to see if I'm still throttled or not...note this is the first time I'm using a hardware-based MLPPP option, or even a router for that matter).
What's more cool is this WRT54G looks to be alive and well (glad I rescued it from being sent to the recycling plant!).

| reply to Guspaz I normally take screenshots of the relevant sections and then recreate the settings. Although I'll often avoid doing NVRAM reset to try to test the worst-case upgrade scenarios, or to test the cases where we give explicit instructions on what to do if you don't NVRAM reset.
Unfortunately, when the base Tomato version changes, we can't really do that, since there are many changes out of our control. |
