Re: KB953297 failed to install!

I can't install that security patch for .NET framework either. It says I don't have the SP1 for .NET framework 1.1 and refuses to install and then calls home to mommy to tattle and complain.

Of course, I have SP1. Dell installs .NET framework 1.1 SP1 because something of theirs uses it, I've forgotten what. This is the second Dell I've had since 2003 that it came installed on. I suppose it must be corrupted (.NET 1.1) and thus the SP1 isn't showing up.

Add-Remove programs says I have .NET3 still installed. I don't think so! I got so pissed at .NET3.5 some time ago that I thought I uninstalled all versions except 1.1.

The patch for .NET1.1 SANS SP1 is only for Media Center edtion of XP which I don't have so I don't need a patch at all.

There is a patch for .NET 3.5 on XP but none for .NET 3.0 so I don't need that either.

I just read at Microsoft NG that an earlier hotfix for .NET 1.1 SP1 is at the root of the refusal to install this latest patch. But that is not my problem because I don't have the earlier hotfix (KB928366).
Have you perchance considered a solution posted by Steely See Profile?
It seems possible that may prove more effective than merely ranting about .NET in this thread.
Just a thought.

I can't uninstall it. And, yes, I have talked to Aaron Stebner about it and other versions of .NET many times. He's great but even he cannot fix all the Microsoft .NET problems.
