anon posted : The problem is on AT&T's end, not yours. You need to ask them to "rip and rebuild" your Redback router profile. Apparently this happens very often according to the AT&T forum FAQ:

»AT&T Midwest/Ameritech FAQ »I upgraded to a faster speed plan but only my upload speed increased...

To get this fixed, you can post in the AT&T Direct forum as described in the FAQ - I think their turnaround time is 2-3 days.

anon posted : Sorry it's taken me a while to respond, been busy with work and all.

Anywho, Speakeasy results: 1314kbps download, 652kbps upload

Aaaand some stats from my router:

DSL Down Up
Current Rate: 6016 kbs 768 kbs
Max Rate: 11664 kbs 1124 kbs
Current Connection:
Current Noise Margin: 20.0 dB 17.0 dB
Current Attenuation: 14.9 dB 5.0 dB
Current Output Power: 1.7 dBm 11.9 dBm

Now again, I realize I won't ever get a perfect ideal connection where I'm getting the full 6mbit bandwidth, but I can't believe that quadrupling my connection speed would only give me a 2kbps increase in download. My router seems to be picking up said speed increase, but it seems like the connection stops there a.k.a. it never reaches me.

bbear2 posted : How do you know you are only getting 500Kbps?

Try this: »sfo.speakeasy.net/ and post back your results.

Also try it on a hardwired connection in addition to your wireless. Let us know.

Using hardwired LAN I believe is the first thing to do and eliminate the wireless connection. If the hardwired is good, then you'll need to look at wireless interference. If your hardwired is as bad, then you can also post your Broadband stats too, that might give a clue.

anon posted : Hey, first time poster, etc.

This has been bugging me for a while now. Recently had my service upgraded to AT&T's 'Elite' package which is 6mbit. Now, I realize my download speed isn't going to be anywhere near that, I realize there's lots of interference issues, but I believe that with that speed of service I should be getting somewhere around 500+kb/s. My download speed, however, has only maxed at 163kb/s. The actual router says it's receiving the full 6016 kbps though. I'm running wireless but that's connected at 54mbps, so I can't figure out for the life of me WHY my download is so incredibly slow.

Halp please D:
