*Update*
Both mine and my roommate computers are appearing as being inactive on the main page of my modem interface. Still, I have access to Internet.
Just did some tests on my roommate computer which just got Internet back, and the diagnostics console within WinXP, tells me that FTP would be the problem and most probably, block by firewalls.
How would I enable this on both our firewalls, plus my modem internal firewall? Is it a good idea to do it?
Also, doing a ping test on his computer, he sends out 100 packets but receives only about 86. He loses 14% instead of 100% like yesterday. His Jitter is really high at 121 ms and his ping is also high at 61.
When I look at both our computers results, it seems we are using the same IP address. Is it because I am sharing my Internet access with him?
As for my Wii,
Error Code: 52231 There appears to be an issue with your wireless router's firewall.
To ensure wireless interference is not causing the problem, click here to review our "Slow Downloads or Errors Received While Connecting" help. It is possible that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is not compatible with the Wii console. For instance, if you need to login with a user name and password when you try to go online for the first time after restrarting your PC, your ISP is likely not compatible. Please contact your service provider for more information. If this error occurs regularly, while you are playing at home, it is likely a connection problem related to your firewall settings. For more information on firewalls, click here. Comcast users, please click here to view the Wireless Routers with Comcast-branded firmware which we have identified as being potentially incompatible with the Wii console.
Are you using a Netgear brand wireless router? Our expeirence shows disabling the "SPI Firewall" of the router may help the connection. The "SPI Firewall" option is typically found under the "WAN Setup" tab of the router's settings. For information on accessing your router's settings, please click here and select the model of the Netgear router you own (if available). If you are still receiving this error code, please click here for assistance.
As you can see, every single problem is aiming at firewalls. Maybe we need to focus on that.
By the way, I'll be updating my firmware to the latest from 2Wire, seeing that Bell sent me a new one. I won't care if this one gets burnt . |

| I think you should view this 2wire page It can help you find the problem
The image above and the url below should help you find it 192.168.2.1/xslt?PAGE=B04 Write down the "collected for 0:00:00" figure Write down the "dsl link retrains" figures Write down the "bell sympatico connection establishment" figure
After recording that information, the next time one of the devices has no internet go to the statistics page and compare the current figures with the recorded figures
The first figure tells you how long the modem has been running The second figure tells you if the modem has loss dsl sync The third figure tells you if the PPPoE session has been down |

| I'll try that next time but for now, everything works fine. It has been at least 48 hours that I am troubleshooting this connection and modem. Last night, I was desperate so I hit that reset button in the back, which I had done days ago. Seems like the first time, it only rebooted. This time around, it really went to factory defaults and from there on, I just used Windows to set up a home or small office network. Did the same on my roommate computer. Created a new connection on both (always on). Tried my Wii. Tried the Nintendo DS. Everything works fine. Didn't mess with the firewalls so far. I did change my RWIN and his to the TCPoptimizer optimized settings which sets it way higher than the 65k default. I changed a value in the 'Tcp1323Opts' registry key, from 1 to 3 (enabling the three options including Windows scaling and Time Stamp).
The only problem we encountered so far, was that once a web browser had been opened, the page which appeared was one of the 2Wire saying that a third-party router had been spotted. Asking if we wanted to keep it working behind the other router or resolve the problem. We clicked resolve and what it did, was put the hosting computer (mine) in DMZ mode, basically opening all ports. I switched it back to Maximum protection on all consoles and computers, and asked my roommate to not click 'resolve' next time.
Have any clue how to come around this problem? My Nintendo USB key (since Nintendo DS Lite only accepts WEP), has been spotted as a router but it has been linked to my modem during the installation. Don't know if it can be called a 'bridge' or not but it seems fine the way it was set up.
Thanks a great deal for your help so far. I'm scrapping all my days off for this...it's driving me crazy. |

| Some 2wire's allow the user to disable this action the bell 2wire has its mdc pages password protected so there is no access to this option
You can continue to just ignore the warning/prompt or another way to stop the router behind router/dmzplus prompt is to specify your isp's dns servers on each devices tcp/ip properties |

| It did it again and when I click more details, it tells me that both routers are sharing the same address and if I want to continue using both, to switch the private IP address. I did give a different private fixed address like I told you before.
What I will try, is disconnect my Nintendo USB key and see if that's the third-party router or if it is my roommate LinkSys adapter.
P.S.: My Internet is very very slow now compared to before, as shown in these tests:

2 edits | Ok well, my roommate has lost his connection again. So, the Wifi is the problem. I guess it has to do with the settings. Probably the internal firewall. We are both aggravated. In the next couple of days, if it isn't fixed, we're going to call those sucky Bell technicians and if there ain't anything they can do about it, well I guess they'll make 60$ more per month because we'll hook up another Internet connection.
How stupid is that...two Internet connections when my bandwidth is unlimited and I have WiFi....yay.
And I can't believe that just us two are posting here. Just great...
My results:
AND NOW THIS! That's it! When I'm finished with work this weekend, I am calling Bell. Tired of losing my time.

1 edit | I'll repeat myself again....here is the page where I think the problem may reside!

Are these settings correct!?!?!?
I am really starting to lose my patience here...sorry but it's aggravating to know that you're (me) not even a technician, that everything you know, you have learned by yourself and when you call your ISP, they are not even able to solve the problem! INSTEAD, THEY SEND YOU A "/%?$"! NEW MODEM! INCOMPETENTS!!!!!!!!!

| I have yet to make the call but I presume that the problem is either:
-My local area connection properties which aren't set properly (default)
-My modem internal firewall and/or Windows firewall
-Within the Local Area connection, the settings under 'Internet connection sharing'.
Someone has any idea how to set these accordingly? |
