Blah! Now that really sucks. But, I hate cable LOL. Thanks for your input. I think I now know what to do about this once and for all. It was a great help. Thanks a lot. |

I figured primus had their own installers on the road (home installs nothing line related). The only ones I have heard of sending techs are Caneris. If they are this would be a good development as many users are ill equipped, or hesitant, to test at the demarc. Of course that said once things are verified back to Bell's loop then it is incumbent upon the ISP to contact Bell. Which it sounds like Primus failed to do.
The only thing I see is: he said Bell put in a new demarc about 5-months ago. Could this be the issue? A cross/short at the demarc? Bell only installs nids on new lines, when replacing a drop or bsw if it is convenient or on a repair where isw repair costs are refused. So. Why was the nid replaced 5 months ago? The only issue I have seen with nids is the port going open. It is basically two redundant connections as opposed to an older protector. |

| after bell replaced the demarc with a new one there was no drop in speed. The only reason it was replaced was because the one we had was very old so the bell tech replaced it with the new one.
I am very sick of this right now, being jerked around by primus and if primus is really not able to give me back the speed I had for almost a YEAR then I hope many people here will see this and not go with primus. I will do my best to spread this as word of mouth to everyone I know.
If primus does get this issue fixed I will be a happy customer and that will prevent me from telling everyone about this.
Once again whats boggling me is that I get 5megs for almost a year sometimes when I would run the speedtest back then I would sometimes get 6megs. In summer I got 7 megs and now suddenly im stuck at 3 megs and they are telling me im lucky! STOP JERKING ME AROUND! |

| Give it Till Monday for them to maybe get back to you. Not much will be done over the weekend and Monday, and nothing will be done till the get this addressed and actually looked at.
I'd be pissed as well. Especially after being told how "lucky" I am.
Maybe a different Primus sleeper agent will contact you

| Talked to a Primus rep on the phone a little while ago, apparently I used to be 2 something KM from the CO and now im 3.17KM. They say it is probably because Bell added more copper to the line and that's why the distance has increased and the speed has dropped. |

They should be installing more RDSLAMS/remotes and such, not adding wires all around the place. That just makes for terrible line conditions :s |

3 edits | I havn't had internet at my house since 10am yesterday(Wednesday). Thats when my sister noticed it. I talked to them and told them about it around 6 or 7pm yesterday since that is when I got back home, since then 1 whole business day has passed and they havn't sent a tech out here yet and just made me restart the modem a couple times and disconnect everything and let them run their own tests. Also they ran tests to measure distance from CO several different times and each time they got a different measurement! sometimes 250meters sometimes more. I am on the phone right now waiting in line to talk to a rep so they can give me an update about what they are planning on doing.
BTW my phone(not voip) and dsl went offline at the same time but my phone came back around 4pm wednesday but dsl didnt.
EDIT: was on hold for 34 minutes. I gave up. Im about to give up on primus and dsl also. |

I can see from the test results that there is a problem with your loop, and have contacted the manager from the department that deals with Bell on these issues. I will provide you with an update tomorrow on what is being done. I am sorry you are having these problems. |

| today is the 4th day without internet and primus has still not done anything about it. Yesterday(friday) they said that a tech will call me to tell me when he'll be coming over to to check and I didn't get that call. It won't really help me with a tech coming to my house, there is no problem at my house, I have already checked the demar and still get no sync, what primus needs to do is get Bell to check the lines or one of their own tech to check the lines if its possible. This is really the WORST support I have experienced.
EDIT: Just got done talking with Primus tech support and customer service. After 4 days of no DSL, today they tell me that my services have been disconnected! The tech support forwarded me to customer service and they say they don't know who issued the notice to terminate my services but that they are disconnected! Why was I not told before that it had been disconnected and I never even talked about disconnecting my services. Im just appalled by this experience with primus, I have no words to describe it! WOW. |

@videotron.ca
| LOL WOW indeed.
Time for a complaint to the CCTS now. Lets at least get you some money/compensation for the no service, someone canceling your service, the months you paid and lost + your time.
If you need help with this just ask.
Just another step in the Bell QA Manual. |

| reply to wicked13 I've had shaky speeds with primus for almost 2 months!!!
First of all, it's not my line problem since i newly ran a cat5 cable the modem jack and the SNR is more than 20 dBs.
I've been able to achieve 7000 kpbs service on my line but yet, i'm stuck with a medicore 3000 kbps and at most sometimes 5000 kbps. I would be happy staying at 5000kpbs but the problem is that it's unstable. sometimes it would be at full speed and others at less than 1000kps. It's been 2 months already and i totally agree with what you're saying. They can't even give me an answer to why my line speeds are so erratic. |

| reply to wicked13 I was having shaky speeds a little while ago (~3weeks - 1 month) when for some reason, I'd be synced at 15Mbit, but only getting 3Mbit download speeds....
I made a post about it and it turned out they were upgrading switches or something (at least that's what I understood) and ever since, I've been getting absolutely fantastic speeds. Almost 7Mbit constant download speed (875KB/s).
I just gotta say, despite the hiccup, I absolutely love my primus service. Especially since I get unlimited download! Thank god for not having a cap!! |

| reply to wicked13 I had a bell with a 12MB service, then switched to Primus, they were not able to give me more then 1.5MB service at all, and telling me that their lines are not capable to get more then that. I really did not notice their own technicians to hook me up with their new line and did not notice any Primus service vehicles around my location. So I swtiched to Bell back, voila my 12MB service is back working, even technician said I can go Max 24MB, so why is PRIMUS lieing like ROGERS about their shared cable services? |

| I got to talk to a manager from primus today who called me. They don't know how but said that my services were disconnected and phone line was transferred over to bell. I've asked for the dsl to be resumed with primus and they offered me a $5 credit per month.
Concerning my low speeds issue, that ticket is still open and they said that they will "nexify" me to another server or network I think and told me that they believe I will get better speeds. Also they will be sending me a new modem. I don't remember if it will be the same model that I have right now(ST516) or a different one. My modem is actually 2 years old. I subscribed with primus actually in 2007. |

The reason that Bell can offer you 12 Mbps and Primus cannot is that you are most likely quite far from the CO and can be served both directly and via the remote. Bell does not allow Primus (or anyone else co-locating on the CO) access to the remotes, so we can serve you only via the direct loop that is very long and can handle only 1.5 Mbps. Bell, in turn, can serve you via remote with a very shortened loop length. That is why they can offer you much higher speed. Nothing that Primus service vehicles can change. |

| reply to TBBPM well thats nice, but if they have my postal code and once I'm ordering the service from Primus, and they tell me into the phone that I will get the same high speed service as I get with Bell, meaning 7 MB/s is that they measured it by the distance of my postal code and CO and they come to conlcusion that they can do it. so why after everything is signed, the CO is wonderly far away to get the speed ? |

When associate checks your address, he/she sees the direct distance from your home to our CO. The actual phone loop never goes straight. Sometimes, due to some geographical things (like creeks, railways, etc.) the loop is much, much longer than the direct distance. Unfortunately, the actual loop length is not known until it is ordered from Bell. So, in you case it is likely that direct distance has been close enough to qualify for reasonably good service, but actual loop length made the difference. We could have moved you to the service based on Bell equipment (that can take advantage of the remotes), but 5 mbps is the maximum speed Bell is willing to re-sell to other ISPs. |
