I own a PS3 though. I have numerous friends with Xbox360s and they are fun to play as well. I chose the PS3 just strictly because of the failure rates of the Xbox 360s. I didn't want the hassle of dealing with a dead console.

IMHO, get the system that has the games you want to play. Let the games dictate what you get. :)

If you have an Xbox with HDMI then you will notice from sites like www.gamespot.com and others that most games look better on the XBox 360 but not by much and mostly when you place them next to each other, from my understanding from what ive read is that its easier to make games on the XBox 360 then the PS3. Now I have to say and even my brother who is PS3 biased admits that online play on the 360 is much better ( you get what you pay for) So what I do I buy games wich I know ill play allot of online on my XBox and buy Single player games on my PS3. Now on the $50 a year....come on its not that much, people spend more on a dinner date and thats in one night.

if all around entertainment is your focus, then I'd recommend a PS3. i've had mine for over a year now and to be honest i watch movies, listen to music, stream media (music and movies) in real time to my PS3, and then i play the awesome games. PS3 is still the best blu ray player you can buy.

I don't complain about PSN since it's free, but you can really tell you are dealing with a company that is a couple years late to the party (speaking of party...PSN does not offer party chat across multiple games). I love games like Uncharted 2, and the multiplayer works well..but with PSN, it's a new online setup with every game for the most part because a lot of things just aren't standardized across the platform.

Even a simple thing like chat doesn't work every time since there are so many variables that have been introduced with all the different hardware you can use to chat. The official Sony mic is good...but almost too good. It picks EVERYTHING up, so while it might cause you some issues...you are hearing everyone...and everything going on at everyone's house as well in a multiplayer game. I can only hope MAG offers noise cancellation or that is going to be one headache!

You're ignoring MGS4, Uncharted, Demon's Souls among others. Xbox has Halo/GOW notably.

Both are great (I have both). The blu-ray is a nice bonus.

If I had to chose only one, likely PS3 as online is free and you get blu-ray. Both have their own quality titles, majority of games are on both. The built-in wireless on the Ps3 is also nice.

I use my PS3 way more than my 360 but most of my friends are on the PS3.

With Sony, it's still really up to the publishers or developers to either pay Sony to host the matchmaking on the PSN or to set up appropriate hosting and have the ps3 refer to that (as I understood it - please correct me if I'm wrong).

Other than that, if you've got console-owning friends and they've games you want to play them online with, pick the console more of them have... if not both.

There is no annual "gold" membership fee for the PS3. Playing online with the PS3 is free.

Overall, I prefer our PS3 to the Xbox 360, though it is an individual call. I'm 100% certain there are many who prefer the Xbox 360.

Go to a local store and take a look at both, see which you like.

Browser - Yup it browses decently, but I wouldn't throw away the ole' computer if you think you will get the same browsing experience. That lack of a keypad sets you back on ease of use in the browser, but the controller workaround is intuitive enough. The one thing to keep in mind is some sites may not work right depending on the plug-ins they use. The PS3 has Flash and Java down, but the more obscure applets I wouldn't count on it.

Computer replacement - It's not really built to replace a PC. Stuff like word processing and other stuff for the office or class won't translate well on the PS3. You can install Linux on the PS3, but that's about the only OS it will take. Sony doesn't make a PC-type OS for the PS3. Remember the PS3 was designed to be an entertainment hub and media center. As long as you're cool with those limits then rock on.

There is some great media server software out there for the PS3 to network into your computer and pull media files directly (photos, movies, music, you name it).

Online - If you mean online gaming then the edge is gonna be the Xbox360 from what I've heard, but the downside is you gotta pay. The PS3 does online gaming for free. Both give you options to download full games or game content for a price and both offer free demos of games. Movies and TV downloads are about the same on both with the exception of the Xbox working with Netflix online streaming (with purchase of accounts on both Xbox Live and Netflix subscription).

Ultimately if you are dead set on browsing and the "computer in my bedroom" plan and don't mind that computer being Linux then the choice will be obvious for you. The PS3. As far as online capabilities goes the 360 multiplayer is available with a gold member subscription, about $50(US) per year if you select the yearly subscription, which is the cheapest option. Netflix streaming is available, once again you need a gold member subscription, and a Netflix subscription of course. Officially the PS3 doesn't have Netflix, I have heard that there is a workaround to this, once again can a PS3 user provide more info please?

Both consoles have their own libraries of TV shows to purchase, on the 360 each SD episode is $2 and HD is $3, 160 and 240 Microsoft points respectively ($1 = 80 MS points). Movies rentals in SD are $4 and in HD are $6. Once again, could use some PS3 user input about the equivalent.

Instead of all that I just stream all my videos/music from my computer with a program called TVersity which works on both consoles. Is there anything else you want to know more specifically about?
