Is there any plans to offer 2nd line to the BOYD customers? Thanks. |

@gdds.com | Some time back there was a post by one of the VT Reps that this will be coming soon. But, it never materialized. This would be really useful for me too if anyone from VT is listening. |

| reply to bommenarao If you need two incoming lines then waiting for VT is needed. However, if you can deal with only one incoming line, then configure the second line and set it to NOT register. You will then be able to place calls on that line while incoming calls will ring on line 1. |

| reply to bommenarao No need to wait: GoogleVoice is giving out new numbers quickly, and if you have 2 lines on your ATA, then adding a 2nd in/out line is rather simple. Under the impression that many BYOD do this now. But the real beauty is that if your provider goes down (or you get SunRocketed) then we don't lose phone service (maybe a couple seconds to switch the rj11 from line 1 to line 2).
No need to wait for a GoogleVoice invite if you don't mind using a Seattle based DID. |

I have always thought that this could be implemented for byod if they locked it down by mac address. This would be an inconvenience for some, but isnt not having it a bigger inconvenience? |

| reply to bommenarao I used to check this VT forum regularly, mostly because the service was spotty at times and with network upgrades, arrival of the Sun rocketeers etc., it warrented keeping an eye on things. I dont check that often anymore because my service has become very good for a long time. The one issue I do check on is the BYOE 2nd line and its always the same thread. Customers ask and reference old VT verbiage that it would happen in time and then it goes away.
For all VT's willingness to jump into this forum an assist or clarify issues, this is the one area where they have their ears turned off.
My thoughts were the BYOE 2nd line would be a sizable tech support effort on a customer by customer basis and they just didnt want to take it on when times were hectic. The 2nd line offering hit right when the Rocketeers were storming the gates and VT was upgrading an already burdened network architecture.
Now that the network is working very well (my prospective) I think VT should bite the bullet and tell us if BYOE will ever expect the 2nd line feature. IF NO, I dont even care if they say why; just clear the air. Its obvious that I would really like to have it, but again IF NO, so be it. |

| imo/fwiw: 2nd line for BYOD offering by VT is a moot topic. BYOD assumes some level of knowledge, willingness to learn new things and responsibility to resolve your own issues.
2nd line is available through BYOD. If supported by your ATA, there is plenty of reference available within this forum -use search.
Obtaining a local number, if needed, is the only trick. But 2 services offer this for free now -so no longer an issue. |

But 2 services offer this for free now -so no longer an issue. As a VT BYOE customer for 3 years plus, I have managed my services pretty well, with the only tech support required when I switched to a HT-502 adapter and needed clarification on the distinctive ring programming. I have assisted three other VT BYOE customers in there initial setups and activations.
With the VT BYOE 2nd line, my issue is not a hesitation of going to a 3rd party, free or not, but more clarification, on where VT is going with the issue as a provider. VT has stated, informally, that they would be offering it to BYOE. That hasnt happened.
I rationalized that when 2nd line was first promoted, it wasnt a good time. Their network was in horrible shape and the Rocketeers were just arriving. I assume this is well behind them. A 3rd party free 2nd line is a good option; however, it does not "mute" the issue with VT's former statements. |
