| Yeah, if you had purchased the normal version and wanted what the deluxe version includes you would have had to pay (I beleive) like $15 for the warden DLC. So you saved like 5 bucks buying the deluxe edition instead of normal. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

| reply to Dooby said by Dooby :I got the Deluxe Edition also and am now pre-loading. Just curious, anyone else only see 'Dragon Age: Origins' and no tag mentioning the DE? I was wondering if there should be a difference. On the Steam client, from the home page you can select your "Account" info on the top right of the screen. This should show the game as the digital deluxe version in your purchased games list. As has already been stated, the extra content will be available through download from EA/Bioware, and I am 99% certain that you will need to have an active account with one of them to be able to get the additional content. If you have messed around with the character creator demo and tried to save any characters, the concept will most likely be the same. You would log in through the game to grab the deluxe content.
Essentially, our deluxe version is identical in every way to the standard game, and all of the extra features will be available as a separate download.
Being in the Eastern Daylight Time region, I have to wait until tomorrow at 3 PM local time before the game will be unlocked to play. It's going to be a long day at work tomorrow. |

| That better not be true, damnit. I don't want to sign up with EA/Bioware!
Fed up of giving my details to game companies so I can play the game I paid for. I know this is an old topic, but it's becoming much more prevalent. I have SO many online accounts for sites that I've only bloody used once or twice. Now more and more games need my personal information and e-mail address and passwords to 'unlock' them. Take 'Red Faction: Guerrilla', a very enjoyable game btw, won't let you frickin' SAVE your game without having a Windows Live account. The excuse "But you don't have to sign up with Windows Live to play the game" just doesn't cut it, because the game is long and without saving there is little frickin' point. There is no choice anymore. Now that I have bought the D-Edition, I will HAVE to signup or waste my money.
I bought it through Steam with my credit card and that is the ultimate in personal information and credibility, so why isn't it enough for Steam to verify my purchase and unlock my game.

| It's worse than that, without hacking the game, you have to have an EA account to even play the game with their new authentication process for the digital download versions.

The game has a simple CD check if you bought retail. If you bought via Impulse, Steam, and D2D the game just starts up like normal. You are not required to login. However, if you do not login and attach the CD-Key to your account you are unable to download any extra items and DLCs. You are also unable to upload your characters stats to their social webpage along with screenshots.
I'd say it's worth logging into your bioware account. However, if for whatever absurd reason you don't want to - You don't have to. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

| Ok, I see that I CAN save characters in the demo, but I just cannot upload the character stats without logging in. Sorry about the misinformation. There is so much buzz right now with this game that it's difficult to find answers to questions without seeing a ton of speculation and hearsay, and I am guilty of spreading such false rumors. |

3rd party signups from Steam can be a huge pain in the butt, as I recently experienced with the Relic/Steam teamup for the Company of Heroes expansions. Relic is a complete nightmare. Not only is the signup process long and involved, it requires you to repeatedly re-download multiple gigs (approx. 8Gb) of game data every time there is a patch. Even if the patch is only 12Mb. How insane is that?
Anyway, I'm excited about this game Glad I bought Torchlight to fill the time, it's a lot of fun. -- As quiet as a fish.. |

| reply to Ash3r Hours before release EA still has not released what kind of DRM they will be using... according to the Impulse (Stardock) employees, there won't be any SecuROM nor GOO DRM...
However EA can't be trusted. Perhaps because they're inherently evil, but with Sims 3 they said they'd never put any SecuROM DRM on ANY copies (be it digital or retail) and what did they do? Slapped SecuROM on every copies out there (except digital copies bought from the EA digital store... Steam, Impulse and D2D got fucked with SecuROM).
To be honest if this wasn't Bioware I wouldn't bother even getting it. I was saddened when Bioware got purchased by EA, it was a sad day.
I just hope EA does not fuck us from behind with insane DRM. Rumors say EA is using their very own, new DRM, which has "acceptable" boundaries.
Whatever that means... |

1 edit | It's a custom cd check method. They aren't using securom nor anything else. To download DLC's, buy DLC's, or upload your content you need to attach your bioware account to the game and register your CD-Key.
No tricks or schemes here.
Game is finally out now. Can't wait for my download to finish. I had downloaded the cracked copy and played only 5 minutes of the first level and instantly fell in love with the game. So I un-installed and had been waiting until now to finally play. The game is really good. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

| Uh, this is an adult-themed RPG. All the dialog actually means something and should be read and needs to be read. If you say the wrong thing to certain characters they will sometimes have nothing to do with you and then you'll never get to do their tasks / do whatever. -- THIS IS SPENCER. 1 edit | reply to Ash3r Flawless distribution by Impulse, maxed my 10mbit connection the whole time it downloader. Pre-order was charged promptly yesterday evening, the download link went live at the promised time, and I received the codes via e-mail shortly after 1:00PM.
However, EA fucked up! W00t! I had to wait on live chat 1 hour to get a new registration code, because when I tried to activate it, it said the key had already been used... when I tried to register my game on the Bioware social site, it said both at the same time the key was not recognized, and that the game had been successfully registered... but it never showed in my profile. Same error on the DLC items...
So the multi-billion piece of shit that is EA decided to use their own messy DRM activation system and broke it... I only waited 1 hour because I was one of the first to get it on Impulse (which is speedier than both D2D and Steam, and I believe D2D had loads of problems even with the pre-load) and it was during business hours... good luck tonight when millions try to activate their game and all contact EA after that!
EA really needs to die.
Edit Fix: if you got the digital version, DO NOT REGISTER VIA THE WEBSITE! Create your EA account, but do not add any key... do it when the game launches, it will go through fine, and you can avoid dealing with EA altogether. You won`t be able to get your DLC or CE items though until they fix it. |

1 edit | Bah, yeah EA added in some sort of auth to run the digital distribution games.
However, It was pretty easy to get working. That said, stardock screwed up the install for their version. It doesn't install the DLCUpdater service correctly, and you have to install it manually to get the DLC's working.
Also, the bioware social site isn't playing very nice.
However, I got everything working now (Including DLC's) so it's time to go play.
Also, the online activation for the digital versions only checks the first time you use it. Once the computer has been activated you can play offline. I have no problem with that. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

| If you want to get playing, you can download the skidrow crack in the meantime. The game should run and you should be able to get the DLC's working (Once you manually install the updater service) -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |
