Re: CoD: MW2 To Not Support Dedicated Servers Or Mods

A mod can create a hole new game off someone else's work, even when i agree with Ratman_84 See Profile it is all about the money.

With all the pre-orders taken from the console sector they really dont care about the PC gamers.

True. The thing they fail to realize is with the mods you have to have the original game to play. Mods lengthen the shelf life of games. Look what mods did for Half Life, Half Life 2, BF1942, BF 2, even COD4 and COD:WaW. It gives more bang for your buck.

The gaming communities design new maps and/or modes of play. This means that the original game designer doesn't have to have staff and resources working on new content to keep a game fresh.

Mods don't make money on the hours and hours they put in to make a mod. They do it to make the game more enjoyable.

If they are worried they about losing revenue from selling map packs or add-ons, they should license a mod/polish it up more and sell it for a nominal fee. There will be people that buy it just to have an "official" version. $5 profit is still $5.

I feel they are shooting themselves in the foot.

That's the thing though. They don't want the shelf life of an older game extended. They want to sell you a new game in a year or two. It's about money and control.
