Here is a post I found on a quick search.

IPv6 support has been available in many (most/all?) OSes since the *early* 2000s. And, for the ones that don't support it (why the hell are you, personally, running anything that old???), they can be gatewayed through devices that do support it (there's a great history of cross-type network gateways). As to legacy systems in the commercial and gov't space, they generally aren't connected to the public network space, at any rate, as they've gone WELL out of support for even routine security updates. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |

IPv6 has been available for quite a while, now, at least as an activatable option, in most commercially used OSes. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |

2 edits | reply to zipjay Linux has been capable since the 90s. 2k and up are compatible using Microsoft components. However, even Windows 95 can be adapted using third party network drivers. Anyways, here is something for XP, since MS's support stinks royally for IPv6 on XP when I tested it out(the dual stack is garbage) »www.cfos.de/ipv6_link/ipv6_link_e.htm My company has chosen that rather than replacing XP on many machines and it works quite well. Linux machines back to the 90s should face no issues, long as localhost and such are set with IPv6 addresses in the hosts file. Should be roughly the same for Macs with any version of OS X, as that is based on FreeBSD. Here's some info for 95 and up »www.ipv6.org/impl/windows.html Seems even 95 only needs a simple piece of software known as Trumpet. |
