A routable sub-net. Meh. Unless you're looking to run services - which is against the ToS of most ISPs, these days - there's really no benefit to having a routable subnet. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell

I do run servers, but the point was that even with business class ISPs the still make you pay extra for static IPs and routed blocks.
I'm hoping that will change and you will just get a routed block (or static IP) with your standard level of business class service.

Yeah: kind of annoying that most of them only seem to want to sell you a clump of individual IPs. It's like, "thanks, that makes setting up my firewall SO much easier". -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell

| | | | | | Re: Free Static IP Yup, I know what you mean... I have 9 IPs right now, and they are all over the place.
Not really a big deal for my situation, but for some that's crazy.

| | I'm also hoping that static IPs will become more prevalent. IPv6 allows for an insane amount of IP addresses.
I wouldn't mind if the basic residential goes form 1 dynamic IP to 1 static IP for the same price. They should also make getting multiple static IPs much cheaper, or even differentiate between DL/UL speed and number of static IPs (pick your speed, pick the number fo IP addresses you want).
I'd also like to see the lessening of restrictions for hosting servers on residential connections, from 'no' to: can't make any money from any serverice the server(s) provide and can't draw a ridiculous amount of bandwidth (which is debatable considering bittorent and serving of high bandwidth media streams). but i don't have high hopes on this part.
