Actually, it does. It gives nastly lag because it constantly whispers other players around you that have the mod, trading gear score data. When I update gear, I'll turn it on to see what the new score is, then I'll turn it back off again. You don't have to have it on for others to calculate your score.
Are ya sure?? Sometimes when you're trying to put a group together, some ppl don't show a GS # and I assumed it was because they didn't have the add-on...is there a way to disable your score from being shown?

They were so bad the DK had all kinds of agility based DPS gear, the only i226 piece he had was the neck from conquest emblems but was the AGILITY one.. and he was dual wielding 2 tanking swords. The enhance shammy could have used a couple of leather drops but he didn't rolled at all and we sharded a couple of pieces..

My last 25man Ony PUG, RL was an amazing mage, over 7k DPS in single target, +5k gearscore but...
He doesn't know anything about a spell that transforms you into a block of ice, resulting in whelp indigestion.

It certainly has its faults as well, with players slotting offspec items with higher GS to inflate otherwise paultry numbers, or looking at GS while a player is fishing or otherwise not in their typical gear. I was recently invited and then kicked from a PUG raid to Uld 25 during late night downtime, and when I inquired to the RL why I was kicked, he finally mentioned - after several players in the raid asked him to re-invite me cause they knew me - he said gear score was low. I was farming fish in WG at the time, lowering my GS by more than 1000.

Point is, gear score is just another basic tool to use, but not to be relied upon. I was thinking more along the lines of people who were on a limited game play schedule over those who had tons of time to get gear.

That said, I agree with you that carrying anyone should be frowned upon. I do not agree that your weakest member is always your least reliable.

Conversely, for myself, I cannot always get into groups/raids with my guild, therefore, I take it upon myself to go PUG heroics and such to acquire my badges and gear that way. Would I prefer to run with the guild all the time? Sure, but I want to get geared up like the next person and ultimately, I can only look out for myself, so I need to do what it takes to get gear. I may be weaker than others, but it definitely doesn't make me less reliable.

If and when I have the opportunity to help others and I know the other person genuinely wants and needs the help, I am glad to do it. If it is obvious the person is just trying to mooch, forget it.

I went and did some other stuff and came back to Dalaran about 90 minutes later. Same guy was still spamming trade trying to fill his raid out.

I honestly think gearscore is making it easier to fail. Instead of actually looking someone over and making some sort of intelligent decision, they just go with the number and assume it will be OK.

Tanks and healers are in high demand per usual, especially the latter and for the most part gear isn't too big of a priority, more a decent player that knows their class and roll.

And once again I'd like to point out how retarded Gear Score is. I've seen several people saying that they've been turned down because they don't meet a certain Gear Score level, one person saying they were 70 points under? Really?

Going by the scale that Tirael wrote up several pages back a Ulduar 25 geared player sits around 4500 and a TotC 10 geared player 4800. TotC 25 gives you a resounding 5000. Does anyone stop and think about what the standard progression guild ends up with as far as item level jumps go on content. If you're in a guild that was farming Ulduar 25 the next logical step would be TotC 25. You'd go from an average ilvl of 226 to 245, or one full tier of content. If you were in a guild farming Ulduar 10 and went on to TotC 10 you'd be going from 219 to 232. Once again a full tier of content.

It'd stand to reason to me then that the Gear Score numbers these people are throwing out are horribly unrealistic. You want to do TotC 25? Too bad you need be in an average gear level of TotC 10 in order to do so, even though it'd be the next step in progression for your Ulduar 25 geared toon.

Even better is the fact that that 226 gear from Ulduar is better than any of the 232 from TotC 10. You're basically just swapping stats here and there and potentially removing better items (Pandora's Plea for example) for trash gear. MG wants tanks and healers. Tanks are always required to outgear the instance by a lot, hence the reason my warrior hasn't done much since I moved him over. I'll gear him up through triumph in 3.3. Healers are GS'd and made sure they're not way under the content (a couple blues and some 200/213 epics in ToC10.. as an example) but everything else seems fair game.

The knowledge of the mechanics of an encounter is not as critical for a healer, esp. one like a druid who has no "oh shit" buttons like pain suppression.

I just heal stuff. I know all the fights now, but if I didn't, it wouldn't be hard to learn.

My point is that even if your gear sucks, you're going to get groups. I walked into Uld10 2 days after 80 in blues and 70 epics. Maybe a piece or two of 200 and maybe one of 219. I did just fine.

When I first came back to my prot warrior after a 3 month break, I had mostly uld 25 gear with a little naxx 25 gear mixxed in. I also had the Staminastick v. 3.0 as my ranged weapon. My gearscore was 4400, but my stats were as follows (unbuffed):

37.5k hp
26.4k armor
55% avoidance + 17% block
230 hit
28 expertise

So, on Mal'ganis (and from what I see on these forums, most other servers that use GS) 4500-4800 is the bare minimum range for a tank to do ToC 25. Using this methodology, my warrior undergeared ToC 25. Looking at actual stats, my warrior was not only geared enough to do ToC 25, but it wouldn't be a hard night on healers either.

Saying that looking at stats is irrelevant or not needed is a very ill-advised method of determining what people are geared for. Case and point, tell me how a 4800 GS blood DK out dps's a 5100 GS Blood DK (who isn't doing crappy dps, just less)?

How a player uses the gear that they have (to a certain point) is what matters. I am in no way saying someone rocking Naxx gear should be doing ToC 25, but someone just off your GS mark, whatever that is, may be better than your 5k GS person. To each their own though.

The world is literally my playing ground. I can get an invite to anything and there's usually at least 1 person in the run that is happy I'm there because they remember how I "carried" ________ in the ________ raid the other day.

This is true for tanks. Often, groups will require the tanks at ridiculous gearscores, which just makes me put on my gearscore bloating gear, to join the group and re-adjust accordingly.

For example, on Northrend Beasts, I will equip my stamina gear, and I hit just over 58.5k HP fully buffed, however on Anub'arak, I will have my Nature resist and armor/mitigation gear on, and will only sit at about 49.5k HP fully buffed. Enjoy your stay, and yes, idiots like that are standard. The server has many progression guilds on it, so scrubs leech off the experienced player base - which sets the bar pretty high for even the simplest of endeavors.

I remember in BC getting kicked from a *normal* level 70 dungeon run because I was too under-geared on my freshly-70 hunter. I doubt the situation has changed much.

My experience with them was a mixed bag. They had some good members, but they also had a fair amount of pompous dead weight that thought they were the shit because of their gear/guild alone.
