birdfeedr posted : I see that you've had plenty of correspondence with the folks in VZ Direct, so there's not much more that can be done from this side. I also have 2 connections at me house and I usually ping about 12 to 14 ms to my fios connection but I am getting 160 ms + so the routing is really messed up.

BDF posted : Similar to OP, my initial speeds were about 25/20, then after a few months they dropped to 25/.02 or so. A session on the phone with VZ support let us isolate the issue to a faulty Actiontec, new one solved the issue.

I can't write a strong enough note about the quality of the VZ technical service we got on this issue. On the call to VZ they asked for a reboot to get to a known state, then they asked for a couple of different test from a couple of different PCs, then a bypass of the Actiontec (used my portable PC for this as it is set up for hotel rooms that do not have network security) demonstrated the ONT data rate was fine. New Actiontec box arrived a couple days later with a return slip for the errant box. All told, perhaps an hour on the phone running up and down 2 flights of stairs, quality requests from the tech, and back up and running solid in a couple of days.

LairdDrambeg posted : I got FiOS 25/15 installed at our office on Sept. 28 and was disappointed with upload which was very variable: to one speedtest.net site, about 25 miles away from us I could get 15Mbps up but any place else, even an extra 10 miles or so and it was 10Mbps and worse. To speakeasy in NYC it was 6Mbps.

The installer saw this and was surprised: he said he had the same 25/15 at home, connected to the same CO, and at speakeasy/NYC he was getting 25Mbps up... yes, that's when he showed me the manifest which showed we were really provisioned for 25/25.

I wasn't too worried at that point and figured I'd uhh, "analyze" things more before complaining... plus I have a phobia about talking to Verizon reps of any kind: my face turns red and I always seem to have to tell myself not to shout. :) Over the first 2 weeks I saw the same poor upload speed and even worse to the West coast where it was 1Mbps. Last week I tried again and suddenly I was getting 25Mbps up to speakeasy/NYC and to most close speedtest.net sites; even more distant sites I was seeing 15Mbps and West coast ~10Mbps.

The only thing I can think is that Verizon has so many routers that at any given time they have a few that are under-performing or glitching; either that or they are playing games with the "traffic shaping"... possibly some crude method of throttling a 25/25 "circuit" to 25/15??

I hope someone who "knows" can provide an answer.

bmasucci posted : I've had Verizon FIOS 25/15 for a few months now. I remember speed testing shortly after I got the service and I was happy seeing the 15mbps upload speed. However, I noticed some sluggishness today and to my surprise, all the upload speed tests that I have run (near server and far server) have not shown an upload speed approaching the 15mbps. Most speed tests yield an upload speed of 2 to 5mbps. I haven't changed anything at all. What is happeneing? Anyone else seeing this (with 25/15)? Verizon FIOS - please check.

Thanks!
