| 228 Area Code Outage for 48 Hours ?!?
My home phone and DSL were not working this morning so I called Bellsouth on my cell phone and they said there was problems and that the outage would last until Thursday. They didn't say what the particular problem was but I don't ever recall such an issue lasting two days before. In the past, it always seemed to be resolved within a couple hours. Does anyone know what is going on or what could be causing such an extensive outage? |

| Is this only on your line within your neighborhood? Did you try checking with your neighbors to see if their lines are down as well?
It does sound a bit strange that your line could be down for that long, but I guess a serious problem or a lack of field technicians could cause an extensive outage like that.
I'm in area code 228 as well, but I'm on CableOne's triple play package (Their phone, internet, tv, etc.).
I did have a few outages with DSL, but the major ones were due line being cut not once, not twice, but nearly three times. I had to wait anywhere from 3-10 days for it to be repaired. The other outage was maintenance and affected my DSL only for a couple of hours. I ended up patching up the line last time because I was sick of calling them up and waiting (I stopped using DSL at that time anyway) .. but that's another story all together.
Like I said though, check with your neighbors to see if their lines are down as well.

| Yes, my neighbors as well and living in a rural area I don't have the luxury of cable. In fact, I just got DSL late last year and was thrilled. After ten years of dial-up, terrible HughesNet Satellite internet, and local wireless DSL, I'm much happier with Bellsouth's 6MB offering. |

Sounds like maybe a cut Cable.Happens a lot when people do work without locating cables,water lines,etc.
The County is good at doing things like that.County bush hog backed up in my driveway with the bush hog raised and pulled my power drop down. |

I'm in the 228 area code (Gulfport) and there are no issues in this area. Hopefully the 2 days include extra time to cover their butts. |

Heheh, I can't even get 6 mb DSL and I live in the suburbs!  I can get paltry 1.5 mbit speeds at best with my loop.
Just curious, how reliable is DSL-by-air? I couldn't find much information on their website last time I checked.

If you are in the 255/586 area then yes there was a big cut cable and fiber problem. The county made a major oops in one of the main runs about the time you made this post. |

| I live in the Orange Grove area in Gulfport....228 area code and I can tell you that my internet has been down since Monday Night....... They tell me it's a unplan outage and it should be back up at 10:01pm today. Very frustrating since I remote in from home at night. |

3 to 8 days now seems to be an acceptable repair time for a POTS line (despite the 'lifeline' ads that AT&T has been running). My POTS and DSL was out for 8 days the last time I reported a problem. |

| Just to update on my status....Still not working..... that's 6 straight days and counting....... Call back and they move the est time for repair until 7 tonight... Originally, it was suppose to be completed last wednesday. Not for sure what is going on.... |
