@verizon.net | Contract up; what should I expect from Retention Dept.?
FIOS doesn't seem to want to do much to keep me as a customer. What should I be expecting from their retention department? What are others here being offered? |

| reply to anonanon Nothing, unless you take the initiative to ask. By reminding you that your contract is up, they are essentially telling you that you can now switch providers without penalty. They'd be just as happy with you paying your same bill month after month, clueless of the new promotions or your freedom to switch. |

| reply to anonanon I just re-upped. Total cost is $10 per month more plus speed upgrade to 25/15 (which didn't matter to me). This is for 1 yr contract with 2 year price guarantee. I thought about going the "gee, I don't know, maybe I'll go back to Comcrast" route to get bumped to retention but I felt this was fair.
Now, I'm not one to throw money around but I feel for the product, this was a fair price. The rep and I were talking sports and I mentioned that I love watching rugby, and he gave me 3 months of Setanta for free. (I'd never pay $15 a month for it.) I just have to remember now to cancel it before the 3 months are up. |

| reply to anonanon The link below describes what to do and what you can expect when dealing with "Retention". I was in the same situation, had to switch from my current $109.99 triple play bundle to the $119.99 bundle, but was able to get Retention to deduct $15/mo off of my HD DVR rental for a year, making my total monthly bill $5.00 less than what I had been paying.
It's worth the read before you contact them, and make sure you tell "Customer Service" that you want to talk to "Retention", because CS will not (or cannot) give you any deals/discounts...

| They just gave me a quadruple play bundle for $10 less than my triple-play + cell phone with an increase in speed to 25/15 (from 20/5). Total (without the additional cost of box rental, and data charges for the cell) comes in right at $210.
Not awsome.... but not bad. |

| reply to anonanon I called yesterday, I went from the old $109 package to the $119 (basically means my internet went from 20/5 to 25/15), they gave me a $9.99 per month discount for 12 months. I asked about the DVR discount some have gotten but they said they don't have that available anymore (shrug).
Good enough for me, I was just looking to get something off.
I already have one bill with our wireless, but I see that I can't get the quad package w/discount in Indiana (probably due to the Frontier sale I imagine). I might call and ask about this. |

| reply to JayMan 007 I called the regular customer service number, but asked to be transferred to Retention. You also need to be somewhat convincing that you aren't happy with the price increase and are really considering switching to another provider, like Comcast, if they can't somehow reduce the new cost.
They more or less told me that they can't discount the bundles, but they can apply discounts to equiment and other services. For example, if they really can't apply a discount to the DVR rental anymore, others have said they've gotten up to a $15 discount off of the $30 movie package if they had it. |

What we who moved to Extreme HD TV, shortly after it came out, found out was that it kicked our contract out a year from the change (known), but with no price guarantee year (not so well known). So, yes, there are a lot of contracts coming up now. |

| reply to anonanon Well i just called today and spoke with customer service. They actually gave me my same deal as I had but gave me a discount of 15 dollars because of my wireless. Also gave me 30/20 internet speed I believe thats the speed. I had 20/20 and they gave me a 1 year contract with 2 year price gurantee. Very happy! Definately call them. |

| Verizon has a 'retention department'
Now that's funny...
I knew they had a non-retention department. It's also called the billing department. |

| reply to anonanon Well, 3rd call to them and finally made a deal for another year. Will go over it here later. Found out it can be hard getting through to the retention department; some at Verizon don't want to put you through... And I was told it's technically not the retention department but the cancellation department. |

| reply to anonanon Listen if you want to keep fios than give verizons customer service a call. As I posted in my other post I just called them and asked them what deals they were offering if I signed another contract. They gave me the deal that they are giving new customers minus the 150 dollars back. If you are really unhappy with them than go with another company if you can. I love verizons services and before them I had no choice but to go with time warner cable. Now that sucked!!!!

| reply to anonanon My contract is up as well and I do love Fios except for the fact that we do not get the Comcast Network so I miss out on some Philly sporting events.
Because of the economy and having to take a major cut in pay, I am forced to shop around to get the best price.
One thing I do not understand is the internet thing. Does Fios offer different speeds? I have never been happy with my performance and for this I would prefer Comcast.
I am meeting with Comcast today and plan to give Fios a call next week. |

| reply to anonanon anonanon, I presume that your change has taken place and that you are getting your HD channels? I tried the same several weeks ago and it cost me (loss of) the HD channels over the weekend since they later confirmed what I had suspected which was that there is no Extreme HD and 15/5 internet, only Essentials and 15/5. If you've got it, congratulations. |
