It is unclear to me if I should try to call before 1/17 to lock in what I have now (if that's even an option) or if there are going to be any cheaper options afterward with discounts. From what I can tell the new packages are going to cost me more but I'm not sure. Help?

I'm not sure why Verizon doesn't realize that all this churning of packages does is give me an opportunity to look at whether I 'really' need my landline (currently used for fax and security) and allows me to seriously look at new options for internet (Clear anyone?).

I had a free MR-DVR for a year and the $30 movie package, but now I have to pay $20 and I knocked the movie package down to everything sans HBO and Cinemax. They also gave me a courtesy $10/month credit as well as a free STB for a year which actually brought me about $4 less than what I was paying last time around. Sure I lose HBO & Cinemax but I have Netflix and the other channels so I'm good to go with movies :)

Gary A posted :
said by longhornleft :

Hey guys, I need some. I'm not sure what to do. My 2-year contract expires at the end of the month, as do my DVR and HBO discounts. Please make sure my "logic" makes sense below...

I currently pay about $160/mo for internet, phone, and TV (1 HD DVR, 1 HD, 1 SD + HBO). I've been receiving a $4 HBO discount and $5 DVR discount for the entire 2 years.

Once those promos expire, my monthly off-contract rate should jump to about $170.

My current TV package, "TV Premier" no longer exists. If I want ANY HD cable channels, I have to get the new "HD Extreme" package. Otherwise, according to the rep I spoke to, I'll only get local channels in HD.

So, under that scenario, the base package is $119.99. Add in HBO and the STBs, and I'm at $165. Add in another $25 for taxes, and I'm at $190.

I wasn't expecting that a new "bundle" would cost me $20 more (actually $30, if you consider the promos).

Is it worth talking to retention to see if they call lower it?
anon posted : Hey guys, I need some.

Try to match what I had before? What kind of luck have you guys had?

I'm also considering canceling my landline, which reduces the base bundle price to $94.99.

Thanks.
