Best Buy did sell them. you can also fine new/used ones on ebay. maybe there are some used ones on craigslist in your area.
dial-up internet is totally different than DSL. if your voice portion of the telephone line works, then dial-up internet will work. dial-up = analog, just like your voice. DSL = digital. your issue is one of two things, your modem or your dsl provider.
--
I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and i'm all outta bubblegum.

xparasite posted : Yeah, the modem is always generally pretty warm (not, like, burning hot, or anything).

I used to have that splitter/ filter on when I had first started using AT&T, but I took that out ages ago and have just had it plugged right into my phone line ever since.

Can you get new DSL modems from Best Buy? I know where I work (which isn't Best Buy, but still has electronics), whenever a customer is looking for that, the electronics associate always tells them that's something they'd have to get through AT&T (or whoever their service provider may be).

I am kind of thinking it's something with the modem, though. I tried plugging my DSL modem into the other phone jacks in my house, and still no connection. I also signed up for a free trial of dial-up Internet for my own computer, and the dial-up seems to work fine on the phone jacks. So by process of elimination, I'd think there's something up with the modem.

Help needed ASAP... :(

xparasite posted : I've been using AT&T for about a year, now, and while I had kind of a rocky start with it, once I sorted out some initial problems, it's been running great. Yesterday morning, I went online to check my e-mail, everything was working fine, and then I went to work. I came home that evening, went to go online, and kept getting "server not found". I looked at my DSL modem, and noticed that only the Power and Ethernet lights were on, while the DSL light kept blinking red.

I figured maybe it was only temporary, so I waited it out for a while; it just kept blinking red for hours. I called AT&T's support line, they ran some tests on the line, and said things looked fine on their end. They said they'd have to send some one out for on-site service, but I'm working all this week, and I need Internet ASAP (tomorrow would be preferable).

Anyway, the DSL light was still blinking red when I went to bed last night, it was still blinking red when I got up this morning, and it's been blinking red since I got home. Right now, I'm on a friend's (dial-up...) Internet, and it's just driving me nuts.

I pretty much tried everything I can think of. I tried unplugging everything and plugging it back in after a little while, I tried restarting everything, I pressed the tiny reset button on the back of my modem, etc., and nothing has done the trick. I really have no idea what happened to cause it to just go out and not come back on.

On a sidenote, I have another question; a few weeks ago, I accidentally changed my modem to "bridged" mode, and I lost the ability to get access to my modem settings by typing in that IP address. How do I get it out of bridged mode in order to be able to access those settings again? Again, though, this question is secondary, as right now, my modem can't do much of anything, right now. :/
