grohgreg posted : I don't understand your response, which by the way didn't answer my questions. Are you claiming that you actually remotely upgrade the 1x series (DVB-S) modem to DVB-S2? If no, then what happens to the customers stuck with 1x modems, once all your outroutes have been upgraded to S2?

Regarding my latency question, I'll concede up front that - much to my consternation - the FCC has lowered the bar, so that now many 1-way satellite systems do satisfy their definition of "high speed" (high speed = >200k in at least one direction). But please explain how you can possibly justify describing your product as a "low latency" internet connection. Your own subscribers have not infrequently reported PINGs in excess of 450ms, 350+ being closer to the norm. That AIN'T low latency on anybody's scale. Now if you want to claim that 1-way RTTs are slightly lower than those of 2-way, I can't disagree. But do NOT try to pass off 1-way satellite as a "low latency" internet connection.

Please elaborate your "low latency" claim.

//greg//
--
HN7000S - 98cm Prodelin/2w Osiris - ProPlus - G16/1250H - NOC:GTN - NAT 67.142.115.130 - Gateway 66.82.25.10 - DNS 66.82.4.12 and 66.82.4.8 - Firefox 3 - AV/Firewalled by NIS2010

grohgreg posted : I don't recommend anybody waste either time or money on the older 1x series modems. They were built to the nearly defunct DVB-S standard. Most providers have been migrating to DVB-S2 for quite a while now. Whereas the -S2 modems are backward compatible, the older series are not forward compatible. Once all the provider gateways are upgraded to S2, the old modems pretty much become paperweights.

And most providers WANT subscribers to upgrade. Most need only a little cajoling to upgrade you for free.

//greg//
--
HN7000S/98cm Prodelin/2w Osiris/ProPlus - G16/1250H/Germantown - NAT 66.82.187.152/Gateway 66.82.25.10/DNS 66.82.4.12 and 66.82.4.8 - Firefox 3 - AV/Firewalled by NIS2009
