The rates do differ on a subsidized phone, I pay half off on the unlimited data plan ($15) for buying an n-series Nokia phone. A completely optional and unrequired feature unlike the subsidized smartphones. I also don't have to renew a 2-year contract on AT&T for doing so. That's at least $360 in savings =)
