NetGear FVS318v3 bottlenecking my Internet Connection

I need some help here.. I have Charters 20MB HSI, from which I currently pull about 17MB/sec. Just hooked up my FVS318v3 to network the home and now I'm pulling about 6MB/sec. I did add a split in the coax but I don't believe that would drop it down THAT low. I'm not sure what router to go with that will not 'bottleneck' my internet connection and I've been through a few already.. Any recommendations on a different router that I could use?
