| Help: WGR614L with DD-WRT, how to change to Tomato?
Dear forum,
I have a Netgear WGR614L, their "open source router". A while ago I flashed this router to the DD-WRT firmware.
Yesterday I tried flashing from DD-WRT to Tomato 1.25; and I nearly bricked my router. Had to do a TFTP upload during boot to restore it.
Money is a bit tight right now; I really don't want to brick my router. At the same time I'd really like to change firmware as my router is not completely stable, it sometimes locks up and needs to be power cycled to work again.
I assume the reason I nearly bricked my router is that Netgear 614L's native format isn't the standard .BIN format -- it is a .CHK and as I understand this is slightly different. And now that it has DD-WRT installed, I really don't know how to flash it to Tomato in a safe way.
I thought about going back to stock Netgear firmware, but I can't seem to find it... On Netgear's site there are no downloads for the 614L.
Can anyone here provide me with a bulletproof, known-to-work method for flashing the 614L from DD-WRT to Tomato ?
Thank you. |

The original netgear format is irrelevant. The ddwrt should be the newd generic broadcom version. |

Do you mean that the Tomato version should be 1.25 ND, i.e. the file tomato-ND.trx from Tomato_1_25_ND.7z ? b) Googling around, I'm reading that Tomato won't work with WPA on the WGR614L , and there are issues about clearing all NVRAM. Does WPA2 pre-shared key work with Tomato / WGR614L? c) I wanted to change away from DD-WRT because the router sometimes locks up. Is the combination of Tomato WGR614L stable in heavy use? Thank you. |

I do not have tomato installed to test what works. Also look at openwrt, it may do what you need. dd-wrt.v24-12548_NEWD_voip.bin is very stable on the wrt54gl. |
