| 2nd Data Connection
Had a pretty simple question for you guys. I just ordered Fios, and one of the options is to add an extra PC for about $50. What exactly does that mean? Do they just run an extra Cat5 cable from the router or do they actually get data to work over Coax?
I need a data connection to my HTPC but don't want to run an additional Cat5 cable - do any of you know of any solutions that would allow me to do this utilizing the existing cabling that Verizon puts in place?
I'm aware of other data over Coax and data over ethernet solutions but thought that the Media DVR could potentially eliminate the need for this.
Thanks! |

The Media DVR only allows the playback of recorded video from a Home Media equipped DVR to another STB.
For my setup, I bought another VZ Actiontec router off eBay for ~$20 and followed the above directions, which gave me 4 ethernet ports where my Tivo, PS3, etc are located.
As for the $50 install option, not sure what that will get you. I chose the above method due to the ease of installation and the fact that I did not want to run cat5 anywhere. |

For example, I am using ethernet from the ONT to the VZ router, then coax out of the router to feed the stbs the guide data and VOD. |
