Higher speed tiers in the Bay Area?

Well, this board stays kind of empty throughout the week, so lets chat.

I am wanting to see what most people can get in their areas.(in terms of internet speeds)

For example, I am in Lodi, CA and currently have AT&T Uverse's MAX 18 plan. DOCSIS 3.0 from Comcast is available, which offers 50/10Mbps -- the highest tier in the area for residential use.

What can you get where you live?

AT&T 6Mbps/768kbps here since Nov. 2006. Prior to that, it was 128Kbps ISDN.

AT&T has been hanging some new fiber here this past week, but it is probably just passing through.

No cable in this area, but I believe Comcast offers something in the 10Mbps range for those living closer to civilization.

We have Comcast Docsis 3.0 here in the East Bay. I'm not planning on upgrading to it. At this time I have 12/2 Comcast speeds which is pleanty fast enough for me.

Uverse is not available for me.

Hehe,

Yeah...It looks tempting...unless AT&T announces that they are going to release a higher tier for Uverse.

I have DOCSIS 3.0 with Comcast Business Class (night and day better than residential). I have the lower tier, 25 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up. Rock solid and never lags .

Just "terrible", paying for 12MB/2MB tier here.

Yeah, san jose/cupertino/most of the bay is docsis 3.0

I have 12/2 business class, buddy of mine has 22/5 business class. Works great, and when I got the promo it was $69/mo for 12/2 + 5 statics. Not bad.

I like the business class. Not sure I'd get residential class though.

It's not up here in Mendocino County yet either, we're part of Comcast's North Bay Network.

We have the Blast! Tier with Comcast out here in Redwood Valley, 16000/2000 for $66.95 a month, we pay a little more because we don't have cable tv, we have Directv for that. We can't get DSL, the closest is in Ukiah 8 miles south, so that's not an option at all, and Uverse isn't in this county yet. There is a local WISP, Willits Online, but we can't see their site due to trees and hills, and they're expensive for what you get and slower than cable and dsl anyway.

I also have Comcast Business on DOCSIS 3 in San Jose. I think I'm paying ~$105 for 25/5 and 5 IPs, but I'm getting 50/10. Comcast Business is COMPLETELY different in every regard from residential and is worth every cent. I once called tech support at 2am and got an extremely knowledgeable tech within 30 seconds who was able to fix my problem within 2 minutes.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I tried the max uverse package and was disappointed. It went down all of the time, despite having high margins (most problems were with their network, not my link).
