But haven't heard anyone complain about them doing so. Also the cap is 250 GB for 20 Mbps which I suspect very few even go over. My household which is constantly on the internet hardly goes over 60 GB a month. Caps are stupid and at least the should be consistant. Not sure what speed has to do with the amount you download. Even someone on the 1 Mbps could download over 300 GB a month. A person on the 20 Mbps tier might only use 10 GB. So if they insist on a cap it should be 250 GB for everyone. |

hes the person in charge of executive escalation at charter |

By "him", i meant that it is probably not a man based on the name Andrea. So I would venture a guess that you didn't talk to this person directly. How can you be sure they are in charge of "executive escalation" (I've never heard of such a department)? |

Until they start enforcing the caps, I would say do not rock the boat. From what I have heard putting a advertised cap on was to prevent the FCC from looking into them for being non transparent, on those few cases that they actually were kicking people off (1.5TB/month and more). It also gave the stockholders that warm fuzzy feeling that they were keep up with the Jones. |

how about zed260 just finding another isp? You seem to hate charter so much, why bother posting here? |

It just gets tiresome. plus, you say "us". I see you live in St. louis like me, which means there are other options. They aren't as good as charter, but there are options. |

No reason to email them, Charter knows customers hate caps its not news to them.
Lucky for us it seems to be just a press release still and never enforced. Kind of like lots of things charter does.. *cough* 60meg |

Unfortunately in my neighborhood, there is not. We used to be able to get 1.5Mbps dsl(at best) but when Uverse came through they pulled the RT that we hooked to, then they did not extend Uverse through our neighborhood(it ends about 6 blocks away). It was pretty funny becuase my neighbor had dsl. ATT told him he would be able to switch to Uverse, they pulled the RT and whoops no Uverse(he is on charter now). |

there are other dsl providers. there is satellite, there is cricket wireless broadband....
charter is the best among the bunch, but there are options, if if they do suck big time. |

Virtually all the dsl providers in St Louis run on ATT equipment(last mile).
Cricket has a 5GB/month cap, as Charter's 250GB cap is an issue that pretty much eliminates it.
Satellite needs a clear view of the southern sky, which in a lot of St. Louis is not possible(particularly in my neighborhood, trees here). |

like I said "they do suck" but they are options.

I'm new to all this stuff...
But can anyone tell me how I could see if I've gone past my "Bandwith cap"? |

you would do better to get everyone to email their congressmen and complain about Caps and lack of network neutrality. |

That is currently one of the issues, their is no standard bandwidth meter to check. You can add third party firmwares to most routers to keep track and for windows there are a number of applications you can run to track it(needs to be installed on all machines connected to work). |

Thats a bs theory. I have directv and use the on demand service and frequently go over the cap because of that. Otherwise the occasional tv show I have to get because a football or baseball game goes over and ruins my recordings. |

So the 20/2 plan has a 250gb cap? Thought it was unlimited, or was that changed when they started testing the 60mb plan in MO? Hopefully they don't enforce it because I go over 250gb a month on slow months.
For instance, Oct has been an extremely slow month for me (lots of traveling) and right now I'm at 247.27gb total bandwidth used as of 10/25 8:44pm CST. |

"60 meg has no cap"
Which doesn't really matter because pretty much no one has 60 meg. So right about now Charter caps almost everyone.
Does anyone know what the cost is for the overage? Is it per megabyte/bit gigabyte/bit?
Or is it the elusive "we know and that's all that matters?" |

I've got : October 2009 (Incoming: 64472 MB / Outgoing: 179568 MB) So far this month on a 10Mb connection, I haven't noticed any affects yet, is this one of those people that like to complain for no reason? |
