| WTF!!! Hard Drive LOCKED
I got a few 250GIG hard drives from the trash, they are all locked!! In the freaking firmware of the drive its self. NOW I MUST UNLOCK THEM!!
I went online and found a few programs that claim to unlocked them but its $$$$, there must be a better way.
Any ideas? I went nuts, tired to format them with, OSX, Linux, W7, Used all kinds of software. I then used a tool that told me they were locked. Then some crappy program i found told me all about the drive then wanted $150 to unlock it.. come on..
What the hell is on these drives that some one would do this crazy to lock them down like this. -- See you in Villains |

Or, they have a policy that prevents people from saying "Oh it's broken" and taking it home. |

Maybe you should take them back and get a full refund. |

| reply to M A R K Many large firms today make sure there is no possibility an old drive can be used. once it is pulled from the PC, it goes to the business manager at the location, then is shipped to a center that de-gausses them, with full tracking Sounds like that's what you encountered. |

That depends. It they're out on the curb for pick-up, they're public property and anyone can take them (this is how police often get evidence without a search warrant). If they're on the property, it could be theft as well as trespassing. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

| Two years ago I was cleaning out my mother's basement and found a pile of ancient power tools - so old they were solid metal with no insulation to not electrocute you. I caled the trash people, told them of the special pickup, put them out the morning requested, went back for the second box, came back out and the first box was gone - in about ten minutes! I had to laugh at that one. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

I must say that the epic amount of your frustration that you are showing on free hardware that you obtained from the trash and cannot unlock without paying for a "so called" crappy program is amazing. You act like someone has ripped you off and that you are entitled to these drives for free at zero cost. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| reply to M A R K Let me get this straight, you don't understand why you aren't entitled to the data or usage of a hard drive you found in the TRASH?!?!? LMAO!
It's jerks like you that make companies have to resort to things like this. Many companies will physically destroy the drives as well, after wiping them clean. |
